Anyone had any experience with this error?

Out of nowhere I started to experience this error with the ethernet cable plugged in and of course it cannot obtain an IP address. Also the network LED light by the port no longer flashes when plugged in. Also the PS3 controllers take a very long time to connect wirelessly but seem OK when connected with the cables. With the ethernet cable unplugged I no longer get the error. The system is out of warranty as well. The ethernet cable has been tested and the router works fine.

All my googling points either to the ribbon cable inside being loose, which to me it looks fine when I opened it up, or the NIC being fried and needs a motherboard replacement. I also tried rebuilding the database to fix HDD corruptions but no joy.

But in the hopes of someone having any other ideas please let me know? long shot I know :)

Sucks as it looks like its serious to all the results from Google,

I must also add that PS3 Fanboys must never come to me with their "facts" that a PS3 is more reliable than an XBox. I bought my PS3 soley on this assumption and now I read on countless forums just how much issues PS3s generally give. I believe the only reason why the XBox fails quicker is because they are used 10 times more than the PS3s.

P!$$ OFF. Guy has a genuine problem and you come to advertise fanbois?

Oh well I thought I would give it a try anyway but I think this PS3 is done for wrt online play :( Only thing I haven't tried is a full factory reset or whatever one might call it. Funny thing is the HDD says it is corrupt everytime I try a database rebuild. So I am wondering if the issue is software related somehow. Except I am afraid to try in case I lose all the DLC that there is on the PS3.

The LED for the network doesn't show which makes me think it is Hardware. But maybe the PS3 only shows the LED once it is properly connected and IP associated - unlike say a PC network card. Because it definately detects that a cable is plugged in else it doesn't give an error. Can anyone confirm this?

Sadly dude this looks to be a hardware issue. The ethernet and wireless connections both use the same board so an error on that board and both interfaces are screwed. So sadly no more internet play for you on that box. Look on the bright side though, you can now JB that console and do what you want Sony can't detect it :)

@cbrunsdonze with your fanboy cr@p. This guy is asking for help please take your fanboy attitude somewhere else or help him. Secondly your ignorance is really showing with your comment that XBOX has sold 10x as much as the PS3. Latest sale figures, not shipped to sellers but actual sales, indicate that XBOX is at 50 Million as of 6 January 2011 and PS3 is at 47.9 million as at 31 December 2010. And for the record I am on my third Xbox and still on my first PS3.

The Problem is cause by your "Wireless WiFi Circuit Board CWI-001". Once replaced your console will return back to Normal.
