I mean Telkom recently started upgrading DSLAMs so the chances of them upgrading them again... almost zero

Telkom normally only implement technology once it becomes outdated. So lets start the wait.

The company says that they achieved data transmission speeds of 825 megabits per second (Mbps) over 400 meters of bonded copper lines and 750 Mbps over 500 meters.

Thats a drop of 75mbps over just an additional 100m. Anyone know what the average distance is between a subscriber and the DSLAM? I'm willing to bet it's way more than 2km on average. What's the speed going to drop to?

Haha yea the most expensive lines will be upgraded to this for free (in about 2160) and the rest of us chumps will still be stuck with 384Kbps narrowband.

Phantom DSL promises a bandwidth increase of 50-75% over existing bonded copper lines. NSN says that this prolongs the life of copper networks, delaying the need for fiber rollout and protecting the operator’s existing capital investments.

Telkom just got another excuse not to look into fiber to the home in the next 100 years

And you can achieve 1gbps over ADSL lines if you're 1 meter away from the exchange. What's Nokia's point?

We all know this won't be realistically possible since exchanges are few and far between. I'm lucky enough to be 30 meters away from my exchange, but the cable run is more than likely a bit more than that due to the cable layout in the street... whoop-die-****ing-doo-daa
