8800GT pricing...

Generally the rule of thumb is, if you see something that costs in $, times it by 10 and thats the price that you will pay for it here in Rands.

PS Killa, I advertised my GTS last night and have already sold it :p

"An Australian outlet has also been in touch to say that of the 22 cards they were allocated, three don't work (two Inno3d 8800GT 512Mb cards one Gainward 8800GT 512Mb card). All three were dead on arrival. "Fans spin, no signal," reports our source. He notes: "Thirteen-and-a-half per cent DOA is not good enough...""

I hope none of our Inno3D cards coming in through Prophecy are DOA. :( It seems like it might even be worth waiting for the next round of cards, or custom cards, they're already coming out.

anyways sitting out too funds as to total new mobo on the horizon :)

Does anyone know what the import costs would be for a single graphics card (ie. 8800GT)? Is it based on the cost of the card, if so what percentage of the cost?

Sometimes you can get away with not having pay import from what I have heard.

Radeon HD3870 listed at €249  Rated at 256Mb GDDR3 - 668Mhz - 1656Mhz

Those are pre-release prices, and 249 Euros usually means around $249, they get raped along with us over there. :)

It should retail for less once it's actually out. (Which has inched forward to the 14th :D)

When i bought my current 7800GTX i only paid the clearance fee at the post office. The same with 2 x guitars, 2 x cpu's, dvd's etc. I have never been charged import duties. Only clearance fees

Ye there is a certain limit you have to go over before they'll charge you import duties.

As far as I know pc hardware doesn't have duties. You only pay custom tax.

I checked out the links and I couldn't find anything close to graphics cards or even PC hardware, so I guess thats good.

My best guess is this one:
85.4240 Hybrid integrated circuits

Why is this importing stuff so overly detailed?! I mean "Electronic integrated circuits & micro assemblies Monolithic digital integrated circuits: circuits obtained by bipolar technology"

It is VERY confusing (and time consuming)... At least "Hybrid integrated circuits" has no import costs :)

I'm waiting to see how the ATI cards perform before I make a decision though

I'm also awaiting the new ATI cards :)

It's a shame that you cannot use this "Hybrid" description to import a cheap Custom/Duty Free "Hybrid" car hey :p
