8Mbit Lines

I think they are busy upgrading their backbone (hehe thats funny), so once that is done they'll have no excuses.

8 is not possible on telkom lines

the telkom tekkie told me around 7 or less

guys remember this hey we live in country where there are less than 250000 with adsl

all these other countries have millions who can afford adsl

so lets not compare our country to a really well developed country, its only good because there are alot of ppl with cash to spend

Those millions you talk about would probably not be able to afford OUR adsl, thats for sure :(
Oh and on another note internet in america is free my friend....I wonder why they so far ahead ??? LOL

They've probably installed ADSL 2 DSLAMs in the exchanges, but run ADSL just becasue they want to.

Telkoms ATM network couldn't handle everyone on 8Mbps.

Good afternoon Mr.G

In short, it's on the way. The rollout of DSL has been from our entry of 512 Kbps to the current offering of 4 Mbps, with more to follow. I don't have dates yet but the initial options are to bring as many subscriber onto DSL and then follow the world by offering higher speeds at reduced pricing. No rocket science here :)

Each speed upgrade results in a larger core network each step of the way, so even thought there is ATM now, once bumped up to a 4 Mbps service, the core needs to follow. Extensive planning is well underway to keep things alive and Telkom very busy for the next 5 year and beyond.

Pls do not treat this as an official Telkom communication, just the opinion of a humble product manger.

Warm regards

Well, thats an opinion received back after submitting the question on their website.

Well I hope things start happening very fast and Im talkin about a good affordable ADSL option by mid January next year, I dont see why this can't be done.

Theres nothing better for a consumer than seeing actual "favourable movement" from a company. It's time things start going our way, although it is an essential service some of us have been paying Telkom even though their prices are extremely high, ridiculous in fact. So Telkom owes us a little something back after all the hardship they have given us.

I do hope the anti-telkom campaign stirs up a huge crowd and pushes them to go forward and make this country's telecommunications and internet affordable and efficiently implemented within a very, very short period. No more waiting please, it has been hell for many, many years now.

i wouldn't actually care about the line rental prices as they are, if they came with uncapped accounts :)

Man if I can get a 8MB line I would be so glad, I got a 384k and its frustrating when downloading a 2gb file
