Since I have last checked on 24 June, the Coverage Map on the 8ta website has been updated.

There are now separate options to show 2G and/or 3G coverage.

The main point is that it has also been updated: My concern was the huge gap in 3G coverage around River Road in Lyttelton, which is now covered in a nice deep purple colour !

Just make sure that you are not actually looking at the Voice coverage, click on the internet promo 5 coverage map, and it only has 3g as an option

Thanks for the correction: I was caught out there !

Maybe it was because I really hope that Telkom would enable that tower for 3G Data also. I cannot wait for higher speed than my current 384kbps ADSL...

Hey guys, I'm new and I don't know what to do. Could someone please advise me. I'm looking into getting the 8ta 10 gig deal but the store was uncertain about coverage in my area. The sales guy was kind enough to lend me his personal 3.6Mbps dongle and his prepaid sim. I get 2 bars of signal and on speedtest.net I got a download speed of 1.67Mbps, upload speed of 0.36Mbps and a latency of 130ms. As slow as this seems it's still faster than my existing iBurst connection.
Will these speeds improve with a 21mbps modem?
Will moving my router upstairs perhaps improve signal? (I have since exhausted the data I bought for the prepaid sim)

Hey guys

Hoping someone can help me. I've applied for an ADSL line, but it looks like it's going to be a protracted process, so I'm considering getting the 8TA promo.

Thing is, I'm roughly 1-2 blocks away from the edge of an island of non-connectivity in Alberton (see below)

Do you think this would be a problem? Is there any way for me to test it out before signing up? I've tested an MTN modem with fairly decent results, but I'm not sure it would be the same.

Hi, you can test the network for yourself.
Get yourself a prepaid 8ta SIM
Load some airtime on it
Email [email protected] with the 8ta number and your contact details
Request to have it opened to the 8ta network
Give three working days to process
Then manually connect to the 8ta network and test

I was actually pleasantly surprised when I did the switch. I was getting terrible reception on MTN roaming (could barely make or receive calls) and 8ta's coverage map bore this out - I was firmly in a 'white' area. Don't trust the accuracy of the coverage map - after opening the SIM to the 8ta network, I'm getting perfect voice reception and my 3G modem indicates almost 100% strength.

How often is the i5 promo coverage map updated?

I checked last week and I wasn't covered, not anywhere near. Now, I am right on the edge of a pixel. Not sure if I'm covered or not.

I am thinking, the next time the map is updated I will be fully covered.

Same problem here, I am only on the edge of a pixel, think I should get a test sim.

Iv seen the map and wondering how can I have full coverage and still show nothing on the coverage map? weird stuff right there
