8ta data disappeared

Yesterday I had just over 800Mb left on my 8ta SIM card. I went online for about 90minutes, took a break and went on again for an hour. Then I got a message that I had depleted my data. On both sessions I was on careerjunction and careerjet - I didn't download anything. I called 8ta and they said in 46 minutes I used up 800Mb. How is this possible? I'm using the new iPad and only have Twitter which I wasn't using at the time. Oh, and while I was querying this I got a R5 recharge. I asked them where the R5 comes from and they don't know!

Is it possible for that much data to be used up on sites like careerjunction? And at what speed would that have to be?

Please, anyone with ideas or insight into what could have happened - I'd really appreciate it because I'm not letting this go easily.

That's about 1Mbps (roughly 130 kilobytes per second) average speed for the two sessions combined. I've just browsed for about 5 minutes and my total usage was 5 megabytes (I only read a couple of job positions). It depends how many links you clicked on. Let's say you read the first couple of sentences on each application and say it takes you 30 seconds to read that. Then in 1 hour 46 minutes, you would have read 212 applications. This means that each page results in just under 4 megabytes of data (which is not right). At most 1 megabyte per page I would say.

I'm not familiar with iPads, do they update software automatically (or have you set the updates to update automatically)? Is there an app that hogs the net? When you leave your iPad idle, does the amount of data decrease at all?

It may just be a few applications that constantly connect to the net and over seven quarters of an hour, may download a fair amount of data.

While writing this, I used up 1 megabyte on careerjunction by clicking on about 10 links and no other service was accessing the net at the time (so, the average is about 100 kilobytes per page).

Guys, can any of you confirm whether the 2 + 1 gig deal ended? I'm almost certain 8ta said that it would run until feb or march. I used up 1.7 gigs on friday as well. Don't know if it isn't perhaps some sort of different way they're charging you now

There have been some contradictory statements about that but it's still available on the 8ta website :erm:
