Hi

The past few days I've experienced really variable pings with really bad speeds when the latency goes bad.
So bad I cannot maintain a simple skype call.

Right now my ping is great, but I still have almost no throughput.

This speedtest is the best it has been all night. Had to try a few times to get the site to load.
0.65Mb/s with a 53ms ping.

I've sent mails to [email protected]...

I am supposedly in the coverage area, but can I perhaps suggest that you re-look at your coverage specified on the map.

8ta rep please assist me with my problems.

8ta has probably been the worst choice I have ever made.

Hi
Thank you for your email
8ta

Just read further threads and you'll see how people are struggling. What gets to me the most is 8ta KNOWS that the basestations cannot surely cope with the same hardware they implemented months ago but continue to sighnup new customers, thus the service just continues to degrade....

I must admit the short, abrupt "Thank you for the email" replies to a lot of people's complaints really isn't inspiring confidence in their ability or eagerness to help... I was almost adamant I'd sign up for a 10Gb deal but the more I read through this sub-forum, the more they worry me. Do they stay on the ball and keep people in the loop with these problems after the generic thank you message?

You are not alone

After 3 days of queries 8ta told me today that they have nationwide issues (with their data connections).

Still waiting....

So I can give an update after that mail.

8ta provided a case number per email and asked me for alternative contact details.
Following that I got a phone call late yesterday afternoon that they have referred the problem to their networking department.

I'll post if anything new happens.

I agree about this.. when I first got 8ta (last year), I had 40ms ping... which turned into 80ms a week later..... then skyrocketed to 100, 160, then up to 1 whole second....

The evidence of the above is in a sub forum somewhere.

Thanks for the update, its a little more assuring that they do get to work on the problem, why dont they just "tell the forum" their working on it too or something, would make the replies seem a little less hollow

Quick Update: 8ta technician was at my home yesterday.

He measured signal strength in various parts of my property and we got between -109 and -99.

I also understand there is another person in my area with the exact same complaint.

8ta technician said someone from the networking department will contact me within 72 hours.

I'm guessing it will take a bit longer than 72 hours but hopeful that they will contact again.

I am also experiencing quite erratic speeds and latency at the moment.
I contacted 8ta yesterday. no reply yet, but i am hoping i can get it sorted out.

Using mdma i noticed i can get -80 -- -95 dB so i should be getting better speeds that what i currently am.

8ta Is the biggest mistake I've ever made.
I've had 2 people at my house already and nothing has been done to improve my speeds.
The 3rd e-mail I sent them I have requested to have my contract cancelled but nothing has come from that either.
Currently I am not even getting 3% of their claimed speeds.

So finally, a full month later, 8ta was at my house again last night.

Very similar to the previous tech at my house.
He walked around my yard and confirmed that I have a very unstable signal and that my signal does not go beyond one bar.
Oh and again someone will contact me within 3 days, not getting my hopes up after the last time. Probably gonna take a month again with nagging.

im not really sure about latency and all that, but what i know is, my 8ta connection varies so much its not even funny, the modem will be on the exact spot, today it will receive full signal and i get speeds of about 4MBps then on the very same spot, the very next day the bar is on one, speads drop to less than a megabit per second, lately it just DC's after every two minutes ... the price is very good if it was working properly, but i think its still growing pains, im gonna migrate elsewhere and come back when the forums yield possitive 8ta results

im daaamn glad i didnt sign any contract .... phew!

Hi retrovader!

We are awaiting a reply to the PM we have sent to you. We need a contact number for the technician to contact you and arrange an appointment. Please respond.

Regards,
Social Media Team

Please allow us to get an update on the installation of the said tower for you? Please can you also provide us with your reference number so we can provide the network engineers with the full report?

On 22 March I responded regarding the placement of the Valerida Centre Tower in Stellenbosch.
As of 27th March - I am still awaiting a response.

Hi Social team.
Thanks for your quick reply.

We have two case numbers:

#1: In January - the number assigned was 549 795.
A tech responded with a site visit to the area and our house within a week.
He was based out of Cape Town - and he said there was not great coverage where we were and not as was represented as shown on the [dark pink area] map.
Apparently some antenna direction and focus were not properly set up for our "south of the downtown area" of Stellenbosch.

We followed that up with two or three phone calls to support at 183 - but we never received the written feedback from the site visit.

#2: 702 605 - the most recent from March.
We again contacted 8ta tech support in early Feb and on 08 Feb we then saw your Freedom Ndebele was 1st involved - and we responded to his request and we sent our house location to him.
BTW - He called me Thursday and I was in meetings and missed a call from him yesterday.

That is the latest number although there have been other reference numbers passed about.
Thanks for any info you can give us about the Valerida Centre tower timing.
K2

Nothing has changed! 2 months + without any resolution to my complaint!

So no further word from 8ta, as expected. I've sent multiple mails to request an update on the complaint without a response. Today the timeouts were so frequent that I eventually gave up trying to use my pc internet and browsed on my phone.

I initially logged the complaint with 8ta on 7 February 2012. It has been more than 2 months now without resolution.
