Yup it sure is. If only it was not so crap but consistent. Now it fluctuates wildly but 99% of the time, it's crap

now if i could only keep mine connected, have been having troubles getting it to connect even though it shows full signal :(

Yip international crappy speeds, but see below test done this morning not bad wish it could be like this allday

INTERNATIONAL
Test conducted on 04 February 2012 04:47:03

Download Speed: 2690 kbps (336.3 KB/sec transfer rate)

Upload Speed: 654 kbps (81.8 KB/sec transfer rate)

Latency: 377 ms

By far the best local latency for me but international is pathetic. Lets see that ping drop under 300ms and download speeds over 3Mbps please...atleast

This is what I got. Which part of SA do you stay?

Remember that 8ta uses telkom infrastructure. So if they congested with plenty of users you will experience such degraded services.

I will give 8ta a bash this coming week and see for myself how it performs - by reading the forum and seeing many people complain seems like the service is terrible.

Not true. It was few problems in the past, corrected promptly, a recent one started on Feb 1st, the second day it has been fixed (after midday), but it came back. Since yesterday afternoon network is running smooth.

Download Speed: 6575 kbps (821.9 KB/sec transfer rate)

Upload Speed: 461 kbps (57.6 KB/sec transfer rate)

Latency: 370 ms

Test 2:

Test conducted on 04 February 2012 16:30:23

Download Speed: 8326 kbps (1040.8 KB/sec transfer rate)

Upload Speed: 558 kbps (69.8 KB/sec transfer rate)

Latency: 373 ms

Nice speeds here.

Why is the local latency brilliant for wireless, say 40-50ms but over 370ms for international? I'm sure with vodacom I got about 300ms international and around 90-100ms local -excluding cape town servers. I know international will always be a high latency but 370ms is a joke and unplayable.

When this happened late last year, we all agreed to spam hellopeter. A few days later it came right as they rolled back the changes they made to the network that caused the degradation in service.
Suggest you log a complaint on there.

Well my international ping has been very erratic tonight. Doing a ping to yahoo.co.uk it jumps between 200ms and over 500ms. Thats a massive amount of jitter! I can't game online because of this, it's a horrible experience. Kinda getting fed up now tbh.....too many problems and glitches and inconsistent latency/speeds the last couple of weeks. Everyone have had issues, obviously their network in general is in need of some major overhauling.

Im getting 300ms and 5Mbps international @ 2:30am. Will test later today

AI tog!.. When it works its great!, but Those times are few and far between...Local pings always 50-60ms..now its 50ms then suddenly 140+ms...international pings on good day to bbc.co.uk 198-220ms... now its anything from 400-600 or even 1000ms.
Sure something on 8ta tower i connected too is Foooked. Friend of mine also on 8Ta (different tower) is cruising on int.pings of 200 to bbc.co.uk.

signal strength -85bd.... How can I solve this other that getting a Cell C Sim ?
Port Elizabeth!

The same in JHB from Feb 1st. Cel C had different problems, but once connected feed was more stable and wake up from idle was instant.
Code:
ping mybroadband.co.za

Pinging mybroadband.co.za [41.203.21.137] with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 41.203.21.137: bytes=32 time=47ms TTL=53
Reply from 41.203.21.137: bytes=32 time=45ms TTL=53
