8ta launches iPad data plans

With my iPad I think I will stick to using my Cell C whooossshhhh data stick and SIM, and use a mifi to wirelessly connect to it. MUCH cheaper and MUCH faster

or, even easier, put the Cell C SIM in my iPhone and wirelessly tether to it. Also, with the next iPhone software upgrade due on 13 February, v 3.0, there will be a wireless hotspot feature, where up to 5 devices will be able to connect to the internet via the iPhone wirelessly

My grandpa is struggling so much to connect to Cell C. I think I may switch him to 8ta.
 
So in a month where I need 3 Gigs I pay R300 but in a month where I need 4 Gigs I have to pay R1,300?

Who comes up with this crap?

And why single out the iPad? Maybe 8ta think anyone who's enough of a sucker to fall for Steve Jobs' shtick will fall for anything?

In America, Netfilx's CEO stated that the cost to deliver 1 GB costs Telco companies $0.1. There exist no drug on this planet that has the return on value ratio like the South African Gigabyte.

I am using my Cell C 5 GB data sim in my Iphone 4 and since i carry my phone everywhere I also installed MyWi 4 in it (One of the best app in cydia).Will automatically connect the moment I switch on my Ipad.So no worries here,extremely happy with cell C(My monthly bill is less by 400 Rands(Voice & data).Thanks Cell C:)
 
Since this is pre-paid, how does the out of bundle billing work?

Looking at the website, when you reach your cap, you get sent to a landing page that offers you three options, either surf at the OOB bundle rates, purchase another data bundle, or recharge with airtime credit.

I'm not clear on whether you can purchase the data bundle on this landing page, or if you have to go to an iStore to purchase it.

I don't think it's alright. I still don't get the whole "bundle" notion - why should data be on a sliding scale? It's just a way of shafting consumers. I was just saying..

We're on the same team then. I got a whiff of 'operator apologetics' earlier and responded with the snark hammer.

Until they each offer their own reasonable universal price for data, with maybe a small discount for committing to a contract, their business model will continue to stink. As it is they are effectively charging a tax on ignorance. There are millions of mobile users using terabytes of data in SA, and at R2,000+ per Gig the networks are creaming it.
 
It makes no sense to use an iPad on any SA mobile network. Using a WiFi-only iPad for a year, with decent speeds and price at home and at work, I haven't missed 3G at all, and remain much richer as a result.
