Since Friday afternoon I am having serious network issues with 8ta. The modem stays connected for 5 minutes at most, then disconnects, tries to reconnect for another minute, then again online for about 5 minutes, over and over. One of my friends is also experiencing the same thing. Anyone else out there aware of any issues?

Having the exact same problem here in Tyger Valley, Bellville.

My 8ta connections disconnects/reconnects the whole time.

Extremely frustrating!!!

*Using my S2 as mobile hotspot now, 8ta connection too unstable.

I'm in Durbanville, close enough for the problem to be related. I use a Huawei E367, tried it in the PC, updated the firmware (there happened to be an update), still the same problem, so router ruled out as the culprit.

I'm using the Huawei B683 router and it's definitely not the router.

Me thinks it might be DNS problems plaguing Telkom. Maybe I should just manually enter the Telkom DNS server IPs again.

I have now plugged in my ZTE MF190  modem, seems more stable, been connected now for 15 minutes, but it's a LOT slower then the E367. What are the IP addresses you manually enter? Is it the ones currently being used: 196.43.34.190?

I logged into my router and got sim card invalid....mmmmm.

Was never an issue before that it showed 8ta as 65502.....maybe that has changed.

Don't tell me we need new sim cards! :wtf:

What is odd, is that my old modem (the ZTE 7.2) works fine, but not the month old E367. My friend has EXACTLY the same issue in Brackenfell, and his old ZTE also works

I am not so sure this is a DNS issue, because it drops the connection completely, so that the router has to redial and reconnect.

Same problem here... I usually just unplug it and wait a few seconds, put it back on and it works but its really annoying. Huawei E 1752 connected to a Netgear router.

Same problem with an 8ta E367 in Goodwood.
Swapped SIM into an 8ta E173 plugged in to the same router and connection was stable for more than 24hours.

Just tried same SIM back in the E367 and have multiple disconnects again.
Connections do not seem to last more than about 7-8 minutes max.

Now back on E173 again.

I'm also in Goodwood. Same problem and I also have an E367 with a Netgear MBRN3000 router.

Strange that it would work on the older slower modems. But I WANT to use the E367 because of the speeds I get, and it's much more stable than the ZTE piece of crap.

Having the same problem here in Bellville, also using an E367 modem. It kept dropping the connection over the weekend and my router (a Tenda 3G622R+ - which has been working perfectly in the past) isn't reconnecting correctly after the dropped connection (which is weird, as it usually does).

I also went back to my old router - a TP MR3420 - which has worked perfectly for over a year and had exactly the same problem.

I feel like it is okay when I am actively using the internet, but if it is left idle for a while the connection drops. Definitely a new phenomenon on a line which has been working excellently for a long time now.

I think we need an 8.ta rep to attend to this problem. It would be no use for individual people to report the problem.

In the meantime you can use this crude work-around : The disconnection only happens when the connection is idle. If you therefore stream something like internet radio in the background the connection stays stable.

How so?

If everyone experiencing the problem calls the helpdesk, the technicians might be able to spot the pattern; common modems, common basestations, etc.

Back on my 8ta E367 and the connection has been up for the last 2hrs 22min, which is the longest since early Saturday morning.

Perhaps the issue, whatever it was, has now been resolved?

Getting normal speeds of around 8Mbps.
