Today i was informed that I could not RICA another 8ta sim as I have reached the limit,
I use 8ta for internet only, and am a gamer, i do use a lot of data at times specially when
there are game updates and patches to download, 8ta has worked excellent in the past. As one
bundle expires I buy a new sim. Problem is, the 60gig only expires after 12 months. I am
not worried about the midnight surfer thats a bonus for when I play over week ends.

But I had no idea that one had a limit to RICA. A google search looking for something legal
where it says how many you can or are allowed to Rica, revealed that. There is no limit
to how many sims a person can RICA as long as as those sims are not sold to other parties
without the proper documentation.

What is so annoying is that data support keep telling me Pre-Paid customers dont have
out of bundle rates, and why do I have so many sims.
Where these guys trained? Do they actually know what it is.

Has anyone had a similar experience? Is there such a limit? if so, why have we the users
not been informed? I have searched and looked and can not see any so called small print
where it says you are limited to 'x' amount of Rica'd sims.

It sux imho

At last count I think I had at least 10 (prepaid) SIMs RICAed (many of them no longer operative, but nevertheless no doubt still registered) -- and I had no problem RICAing a new (8ta) one the other day.

Given that many South Africans have enormous extended families, who may all want a phone, I don't see how the authorities could reasonably put a cap on the number of RICA applications?

As one bundle expires I buy a new sim. Problem is, the 60gig only expires after 12 months.
How many times you bought a new SIM for 60+60 promo? I think it is your first time. When bundle expires your SIM will stay on PSP call rate on 8ta-only network. Just recharge and use it for calls or purchasing another data bundle. Check USSD menu *180# ->1 ->1 from your Promo SIM.
I can't comment on RICA.

Hi Guy's, thanks for the replies. I found the following info's on this topic.

1. There is NO legal limit to the number of sims you can register, providing it is for your own use only.

2. I tried to RICA at CNA and their system they used said i have to many sims already RICA'd. I challenged this as I am not
using sims for any other purpose but for my own.

OKAY the best thing comes from 8ta data support itself. Guy's unless I am totally stupid here but....
if you check the 8ta site and look at the FAQ particularly the part that says.

"how many times can I use this " and "what are the in/out bundle rates"

it says there is no limit to how many times you can buy a bundle in a month, but further on it states that OUT of bundle rates
are applicle.

My argument is this, when I spoke to 8ta data support and explained i use a lot of data for gaming and that is why i have many
sims, they told me "hell no you can just re-recharge the same sim and it would be good" yes indeed it would be good but do these
guys know what is IN/OUT of bundle.

Must admit though there is no other network that can come close to 8ta in speeds that i find and I have tried them all, the service is great imho 8ta is by far the best available at the moment to those who have coverage and...
who do not have Telkom landlines.

Thanks Guys

@Abadon
How many 'active' SIM cards do you have at this stage? Do you still use all of them?

Edit:
I am a RICA agent and I have never seen a "too many sims registered" type of error. I would guess it is their way to stop those that are selling pre-RICA'd sims. My suggestion would be to just deregister a few of the sims you do not use. I can help you with this if you want.

Hello

i use a 8ta modem connected to a router. i have read and re-read the FAQ's and I was not willing to take a chance that my bundle would be charged at out of bundle rates. I have actually buought a few of these bundles as the application I use, is very bandwidth intensive.

The 8ta website portal does say you can re-charge unlimited in a month but....
if you look further down the page where it talks about rates it states that...

out of bundle rates will applly. So unless i am totally dense and dont see it, I understand it as this...

you buy a bundle and it is valid till the end of the month or year in the case of the go big promo.

you use your bundle in lets say half the time and re-charge. The new bundle you recharge with will be charged at
out of bundle rates because your year or your month has not yet expired.

If i am wrong could 8ta please correct me here, as data support seem to think the same

Regards

No - on prepaid eg 60+60 you finish your bundle & you'll have no more data unless you load another bundle.
Once you have loaded another bundle your data usage will come off that.
(the exception here is if you possibly have credit sitting on the sim, then it might use it at out of bundle rates) Zero credit = Zero data

Contract: eg 10GB+10GB/per month..... i don't know the deal there, maybe its differant.

With the 60+60 same as the 2+1 all you need to do is recharge the same sim & i would hope it will retain any unused data say on the offpeak hours side.
It does save unused data with the 2+1 - i haven't seen with the 60+60 but i would assume it will.

On prepaid Promo SIM you don't need to worry about OOB. When your bundle is finished, your internet stops. You might be redirected to 8ta Web site offering to use OOB from existing airtime. I suggest do not do it, as it might be remembered for future use and changing your profile, I don't know. Just go to the zero-rated http://onnet.8ta.com and load a new bundle.
