My friend has 2 beautiful american long legged pit bulls.
Everything I know about pits are to be very careful.
These 2 are awesome family dogs.
However if you take them outside the yard they maul all other animals.

That is terrible behavior.

Don't confuse Staffordshire Bull terriers, with American Pit bulls or English Bull Terrier. All very different dogs.

If you have a poodle that barks all the time then you're the issue not the dog, if it's the neighbours dogs then the neighbour is the issue not the dog, so on and so forth.

I have a maltese poodle and while she is nowhere close to properly trained she doesn't bark for no reason.
 
People always defend the breeds that others think are aggressive and that's ok - I know nothing about them.

The logical thing is just that all dogs are animals and you can never predict their behaviour. A child just stands a much better chance to win a fight with a smaller dog - or one that nips and its over, not the kinds that lock their teeth and don't let go.

And no matter how well mannered your pets are, it happens that they get upset and act instinctively.

You don't kick animals :mad: Or think about kicking them :mad:

Out of the two poodles I've known, one didn't bark at all and the other keeps quiet as soon as you tell it to. So its not a poodle thing.
 
Any of the "Gun Dog" breeds are very safe around young children - Labradors, Setters, Retrievers, Weimaraners
They make excellent play companions.
Rhodesian Ridgebacks also very loyal and child safe as well as Africanis.

There are a lot of dodgy breeders out there, and it pays to vigilant when it comes to the breed of the dog for safety especially around young children.

edit : i was thinking of a basset hound.

How are they with kids ? maybe i should just get a labrador

Im making a point where people think that the dog is born vicious, where as, that is not the case. It's how a dog is raised. And yes, genetics plays a part as well.

Why not get a Chinese Crested Dog while you're at it and start a collection of the world's ugliest dogs in one place.

They require a strong "master" in the house, but they are absolutely brilliant with kids. Mine even lets random kids ride him like a horse at the local farmers market and doesn't even bat an eyelid....

Where can i get one of these? you have them for sale and are you in the Western Cape?
 
Bullterrier's are awesome with kids however it's like having another child in the house - they must be part of the family & sleep inside preferably in your bed hehehe
