A dog for my son

See if you went for a Bull Terrier, this is probably what will end up happening..... :p (and the dog will just lie there and be happy it is getting attention... i just have to look at my boy and the tail starts going a mile a minute)

oh and be prepared to come home to find this on your bed occasionally...

BUT, (and i'll leave this at the end of the post for the lazy lot who don't read entire posts) as much as I love my Bull Terrier.. the choice of a dog for a person is entirely their own.. the only key thing is the training and the way the dog is raised. Each type of dog has its own character and each character will appeal to a different type of person.

Boerboel pup is my latest acquisition, wanted another Great Dane for my GD male of 86KG but their back legs and backs give hassles so I decided on a Boerboel instead.

She is actually a Boerboel X Ridge-back
 
I would go for a maltise for younger childern as they are very playfull, energetic and not by any exctent agggresive.

Mine even saved my life once after a bit of moronic childhood faux pas
 
Whenever we go on holiday to the Transkei coast we adopt a local mutt or it adopts us, comes and goes as it pleases.

After 2 days the mutt is protecting our property and following us everywhere, always at our side when we go outside.
This last xmas one mutt (Chova) followed my 3yr son everywhere and would lie next to him on the beach even though he often tossed water and sand on the mutt.

Very good dog but would be shame to place him in a yard when he's FREE.

Staffie, that is all. My staffie loves kids, and is super gentle with them.
They dont call them nanny dogs for nothing.
 
our boerbull and our pug are great with our daughter.

lol, the boerbull listens to her commands :) she is 5.

Bull terriers are such clowns. I used to be scared of them as kids but they are really awesome dogs.
Im torn between getting a bull terrier and a staffie as a friend for my staffie.
 
The Dreaded Boxer. They will be friends for ever. It is a boy's best friend.

Or Golden retriever, Just beware that breeders are scum of the earth. My parents has lost 2 of these puppies due to breeders over breeding dogs and causing health issues. The 3rd one has a replaced hip. ( He is only a year old.)

It is mostly about how you raise the dog, but yes there are more cases of some dogs biting kids than others.
( I have been bitten by a Rottweiler, was a dog i grew up with. My sister's daughter was bitten by her boerboel. IT was the girls dog.)

That is so true. We've got a golden with hip dysplasia in both hips as elbow dysplasia in his front leg. Got him from a so-called breeder in Plattekloof. He also had his his first operation at 1 year old (front leg operation) but we've decided we're not going to do hip replacements because there's a big chance it won't work out properly and he might never be able to play or be a dog again.
