Ya but the original post was a specific question - not a general who's better thing.

Actually the thread started hasn't posted since...

I respect the sentiment

But why would there be a reason to buy a Mac, if it wasn't aimed to compare better than a PC??? More like, this thread just hit a mud pit.

A Mac is a waste of time unless you are a designer, photographer or la dee dah show off.

As someone who works with Macs on an almost daily basis, even I'll admit this. But in all fairness you can't compare the quality of a Mac to that of 80% of other brands out there.

Oh, and first post :)

I work on a windows machine 5 times a week and a mac book every day of the week, and I am just happier on the mac. Things just seem to integrate better, and even though the windows laptop has way better specs than my macbook, I still prefer my mac. Only reason why I use the windows machine is because work won't support windows in a vm.
I guess what I am saying is a printer is not a good reason to buy a mac, the experience is!!

Actually not, I was helping a cartographer client of mine yesterday, he does African country maps for publishing, now take a country like Botswana or Namibia, all the objects in a map of those countrys have approx 500 000 + objects in Adobe Illustrator. Loads it no problem on a Mac Pro with 10 GB of RAM. (I watched it load yesterday, one map takes 2 GB of physical RAM and 3 GB of Virtual RAM, Both Maps use about 8 GB of Ram altogether.)

My point being is that Mac's are still the best when it comes to handling those kind of Ram intensive loads.
Well if you pay enough you would expect a decent spec PC/Mac that can do the job. Not in itself proof of anything really.

I don't have to run AV software
I don't have to defrag
I don't have to worry about Malware
OS is not giving #*$%^! popup messages/bubbles when i do stuff
Powerful machines (Apple laptops are priced the same for what you get in a similar laptop loaded with Windows)
iLife

If you don't care about the above DON"T get an Apple pc.
If i had to go with a "PC" i'd load Linux on it! at least try THAT out!

:]

This is so true.

Look at this SONY Vaio:

R28,000 to 32,000 and crummy Windows Vista.

Which defeats any arguments saying Macs are expensive.
Not really. Macs are overpriced.
My point was that he didn't compare two similarly specced machines, one with OSX and the other with Vista/XP. We all know that a new MacPro is well kitted out, sometimes with processors not in the mainstream market yet.

If you compare a Mac Pro with a similarly kitted out workstation from HP or DELL you'll find the price the same or in favour of the Mac. In fact when I was buying mine, it was cheaper than a Dell with the same specs.

And Mac Book pros - do not cost any more than Sony Vaios (despite the additional CORE markup).

Mac pros are fantastic machines, if only I had two :p

For true comparisons lets wait for:

1. Intel only Snow Leopard
2. Intel only CS5 Illustrator

Would be interesting to see the comparison between Win7 and OSX in terms of speed.

Currently we know that Windows is faster but not as stable.

Yes hopes are that Windows 7 will be a saviour, and rightfully so for PC users. But the bottom line is that's it's still Windows with fundamental weaknesses that will continue to remain.

Based on track record for reliability, usability, security and stability. I say, If you can avoid Windows, do so at all costs.

I think any reasonable comparison to OSX competition will remain in the Linux realm.

I'm on my 2nd Macbook in as many months - the 1st one was a semi-broken one I got running & bought a decent one 2nd and after that...

The thing is, for me at least - I just seem to work better on a Mac. And when I'm finished, just close the lid and it goes to sleep till next time...

So to everybody - use a Mac for awhile and let's talk again?

I've installed windows 7 RC on my MacBook Pro and I think it's pretty cool. Plus it runs GTA IV beautifully.
