A plan to end load-shedding fast

How is the plan to end load shedding slowly going? It is going great, the master planner of the 2014 Eskom war room is now president, and has an extremely lucrative furniture storage business.

Yes especially on the residential side. Everyone can afford a few panels. It’s not about everyone putting in a massive solar system but rather as many people as possible putting in an affordable solar system. Before you know it we’ll have more than 1.5GW of installed solar on houses.
What sort of system can be installed for under R5000? What about R1000? Those are the sort of numbers we'd have to be targeting for even 10% of the population to be able to afford to install solar power. If R50,000 is considered an affordable system then that number is probably below 1%. Maybe even as low as 0.1%.

2 years...24 months...730 days. How is this fast? Fast is in the next quarter. 2 years of load shedding...has old Chris worked out how this would impact the economy? Both in terms of companies pulling out or simply not investing?
Or are these energy experts simply of the opinion companies would stay?

Like in ISPs must now give 51% of its ownership away to BEE? I agree with you but that will also not happen. The SA political system will have to change before the socialist aspect of energy can be changed.

But ANC don't want free market for their Eskom. Easy gravy... and employes huge amount of ANC voters.

Spot on. Look at current Eskom. All the red tape , BEE policies etc still applies. So rather have power cuts than cut red tape...

I just worked out my small solar system has generated just on 12 MW over the last three years. So although the system will take about 12 years to pay back the investment (including a replacement set of batteries) it has the added convenience of being a giant UPS for the computers, and also sparing us from the inconvenience. Although home loans are relatively cheap finance to use to install these systems, it would be great if there were actual tax incentives or subsidies like Australia, the USA, and others give. I got zero rebate or incentives from SA gov.

You get socialist rules that prevents you from benefitting financially. It is impossible to calculate an accurate ROI. In socialist SA a solar system does not save you money it just prevents the impact of load shedding.

Not true, our municipality has published rates for purchasing extra energy generated. I just choose to rather put that in my batteries. My system is small, so I probably only have about 3 hours of excess energy per day that I'm losing out on getting any payback. For ROI I used total units generated by solar charge device and consumed into the system x electricity tariff per kWh, less cost for total installation, plus a battery change after 6 years.

It in fact may be better than that, as that is at today's electricity tariffs, which we can expect to go up quite sharply still over the next 9 years I'm working on. But yes, as I mentioned it is also the convenience factor for me, so it was not done purely for ROI at all. But true, it is not an ROI down to the nearest cent or month.

Interesting, I always saw the calculations as being fairly simple to calculate an ROI on the investment.
