Oh, well Im going to buy it becasue it looks alot better and runs faster (besides useing more recourse.. only normal though) and has improvements.

Why wouldnt I use it, and you do know that you will change nothing. Anyway, whats their point, that noone should ever make a new operating system and we shouldnt be advancing? I know M$ are full of crap though..

Vista is not an update to XP. There are some fundamental differences.

You will see over the next few years that applications will look more like web pages than normal windows forms applications.

There are many cool, fundamental differences.

From a big company perspective - Vista will reduce the total cost to company values dramatically.

Lol, the guy who wrote that arcticle must have been high.

Nobody is gonna boycot Vista. We all know that we're gonna have to upgrade too it, sooner or later.

@ duderoo: R1400 for the cheapest one.. yes.

And R1400 is frikken cheap if you ask me. Hell, even if they ask 4K, i still think it's cheap. Sure, 4K is a lot of cash, but think about what you're getting in return?! An OS that RUNS your PC, something you use for like 7 years, every day, free updates, etc etc etc.

Actually with the minimum requirements of Vista vs XP, XP is then theoretically is faster.

I'm glad to say that I wont be using either of them anymore. No Vista, no eXPired. Just suse.

Whee. I want to buy more RAM etc. so my OS can use it before I even open my browser.

Not. I'll stick with XP Pro SP2, thx. It suits my needs, both personally and professionally. And I'll keep dual-booting MEPIS. ;)

Ha, that dude is such an idiot.
There are always those who are against progress for some reason.
Just like when Windoes95 came out, there were those who said it wouldnt' last. Those who said Win3.1X was good enough, IBM's OS/2 Warp was true 32-bit and better etc.. Look what happened? OS/2 warped itself out and what WInodws'95 started is what Windows'XP improved upon and that's the GUI we use today.

Fact is Vista is a leap forward from XP. As time goes on it'll be able to do things that would have proved impossible with WindowsXP.

And before generalising that dude should read up a little more. More than money, far more than money there are fundemental tehcnical advances that needed to be done to keep XP current and able to scale to future computing needs. one of which is DX9L/DX10

MS is this big because of the leadership it has always had, despite the time spent in courts etc... They are are succesful company. They have been right on the ball with most of their operating systems (Not counting ME). So i'll trust them sooner than I'll trust some random dude with a vendetta.

Visat is not XP dressed up, it's an entirely new OS! :)

Stupid is as stupid does. If you are simple enough that you need vista or a microsoft product, then you are simple enough to be effected by it.

For the record, KDE 3.5 is already better than Vista, and KDE 4 is soon to be out.

With a whole new generation of bugs - 2 or 3 years from now we'll all be using it but for now I will be sticking with XP sp2 which is probably the most stable Windows has ever been - lets not forget what XP was like a couple of years ago.

I'd love to use Linux, really. But untill I can play BF2 online (please note) using Linux, I'll stick to XP or Vista when it comes out.

BTW, what is Linux's alternative to DX10? Or will Linux use it as well?

Pull your head out of the sand - there are alternatives to Vista. I will never be "upgrading" to Vista.

It's SuSE for me...

Eeee-yep...

Yeah riiiiight... what about malware/cr@pware/viruses/trojans?

True, I'm sick and tired of constantly patching... and hoping that my network doesn't pick up any nasty bugs... M$ is any sysadmin's nightmare, honest...

Those who believe M$ is the Holy Grail, then they're welcome to it - and have fun with the latest and newest fun viruses/trojans/spyware cr@p...

I'm NOT interested in Vista at this stage. The TCP/IP stack was completely rewritten, which means that there will be/might be some interesting exploits hiding...

you know what ive said this before i'll say it again

vista will out and be expensive but there are ways to get it for as little as 50 dolla :)

almost twice what you pay for a hong kong hooker

Unfortunately Toxin there isn't an alternative to DX10, no wait there isn't an alternative to DX9, DX8, DX7,DX6 no wait, not even...DX5 on Linux.

The saddest thing is that linux users are always out to bash Windows, instead of just promoting the positives of their Operating System. They spend most of the time defending their operating system rather than using it.
How do you know KDE is better than Vista? Really how do you know that? Is there a Vista that you bought and put it up against KDE4.0 somewhere?

Assume I'm a new computer user and I wanna play all the latest games, use the PC as my homes media center, browse the net, write e-mails, chat, play multiplayer games. Which version of LINUX can do all of this, please let us unholy Windows users know.
==================================
Windows has malware/trojans blah blah LInux supporters have been spitting the same rubbish for years now. WHat you fail to realize is that '95 had more bugs than '98, 2000/XP morew than Vista. With each operatign system MS gets better and with that we get better mulitmedia, better games, better progrmas etc...

Yeah but you right, There are so many games available for lInux I'm constantly in awe <_<
