A reality check for Vista

OS/2 got thrown out because to reinstall from scratch took hours where a Linux (or Windows) install took two hours or less.

The early releases on stiffy disks were slow, but then so was Windows 95 from the same media. From CD OS/2 installed pretty quick.

Also, spousal units does not like it when their other half sits in front of a PC trying to fix problems and not giving attention or time to spousal unit...

Mine spends a lot of time playing games or reading. Of course I have to make sure her PC keeps working so she can play games

I prefer not to waste a day or two re-installing the OS and all my software, then having to reconfigure everything the way I want it.

Microsoft could make the OS fixable. They would I hope know how to actually repair the registry, how to remove the bloat and rubbish left behind by malware like Armadillo.

why would i want to use linux?

I haven't yet found a good reason to use Linux as a main OS. In a business I'd be inclined to use it as my server software because it is much cheaper than Windows.

Yes, it does, but the bugger is the boot stiffies - mine keeps on going bad, and I have to make new ones...

gah... but I've downloaded the eCS demo, and it sure is fast... (faster than Knoppix) haven't had a chance to surf properly with it yet...
