Hi all,

I have a friend who is been 'under' refunded for his petrol costs and such.

His boss told him to find out the AA rate (that he should be refunded) for use of his own vehicle for business purposes - if he can find it out, he will get that rate, he called them and they said he has to be a member, even to find out the damn rate! ARG!

Anyone know the rate?

Thanks!

OH, He is currently getting 3 tanks of petrol for the month, but he uses on average 5 tanks, he is a IT guy who travels around fixing clients problems.

I see even on they website, they require you to be a member before using the rates calculator, which totally sucks....however, i have the AA rates documentation which you can use to work out the vehicle running costs. PM me your e-mail addy and i'll mail it you you :)

It's always worth trying www.aa.co.za. You can register on the website for free and then check the vehicle operating cost section. The formula is slightly complex and the rate varies from vehicle to vehicle.

It's also worth remembering that your insurance company won't cover you if you have an accident while using your personal car for business use and you need to make sure there is a clause in the business' insurance to cover situations like that.

The vehicle operating costs is high because it includes things like vehicle depreciation whereas the running costs is just petrol, oil, services, etc.

That's pretty lame, the AA rates used to be freely available on the AA website. Now it seems they've moved it to the members section.

I see they're campaigning on the radio stations as well, always thought of them as a public service, seems they've gone all corporate.

Thanks guys!

I'm going to pass the url direct to this thread so he can read it... poor guy is getting screwed by his 'employer'

No. They've always been a fee service.

I know that, which is why I used the phrase "thought of" because they openly provided stuff like the the AA rates, which has become a standard in SA and as long as they don't charge for the rate calculations, it should stay that way.

To work out the AA Rates, do you take the Retail or Market price of the car?

I'm sure it is Retail
