AC Ryan Playon HD!

Has anyone tried torrenting on the unit ?

Nope, I haven't. I prefer NSs for my downloads... I see it is possible with a bit of playing around but I have not got to that yet. Perhaps it will be added in a later firmware.

EDIT : By the way, I am sure it is not unique to this unit, but I absolutely love the ability to start replaying something from where you left off even if something else has been watched in between!

What's the remote control quality like? Mede8er's is decent.

Pity about the A.C. Ryan branding on the front - sounds cheesy to me. Just PlayOnHD! would have been better. :p

Must say though, the POHD! seems better value for money.

I have to admit that the one thing that was turning me off the AC Ryan was the white branding on the front! However, it has not taken long for it to not even be noticeable any more. Just below it there are the words PlayonHD that light up in blue that is far more visually appealing and obvious from a distance in a wall unit.

The remote control it a remote control. I often hear reviews raving about them but they really all seem much of a muchness to me.

from pics I have seen the remote looks exactly the same.

i see that esquire is having a birthday special on the 26th - for the mede8er - R 1499 excl vat.
POHD is R 1 199 excl. vat

I see from the AC Ryan forums - that they are promising a firmware release by the end of this week to correct the internet radio issue

i bought one from esquire yesterday and so far so good. at a grand cheaper than the mede8er its good value.

They should stop wasting time on stuff like that. Most people on the forums want a better gui. Something like the YAMJ Jukebox integrated in the firmware. The beta's are taking way too long, with not enough happening between the different releases.

This is the problem with any product like this. People have different needs and desires. I personally am very interested in the internet radio functionality and will be updating my firmware.

Yeah I know, but the Jukebox function was announced last year November already. 7 months later and it's still on Beta.

Was playing MP4 videos downloaded from my HTC phone - played with volume on PC but played with no volume on POHD...Is the POHD not MP4 compatible? Oh, did anyone install Optware? I realise there is no space with the new firmware but did anyone install it with old firmware?

so you will end up going back to the official firmware (without jukebox)?
or is there going to be another beta firmware incorp this?

The beta firmware is out and the link was provided by myself earlier. It was not a firmware issue but a Shoutcast issue.

Listening to the internet radio right now in the background! It's great as the station plays but the screen saver comes up and moves around the screen... the great part is that the name of the currently playing song is shown on the screensaver! :)

It does not affect anything you already had on there as far as I can see. Remember the jukebox itself is stored in a folder on your drive that contains your movies. Updating the firmware should never affect this.

The only really useful fix, for me, is the internet radio! Loving it! It was one of the first things I tried when I got it and it was not working as you know. Of course I could stream radio on my laptop but the sound is obviously not the same as having it coming through the sound system at the click of a few buttons! :)

What exactly is the status on the Jukebox? What works / doesn't work etc? I see there's been 7 beta releases of Yamj, but 7 was recalled? Can I basically use any firmware then, and just add Yamj?

How many radio stations do you guys get?

is it shoutcast radio, or are you able to listen to actual LIVE Radio stations like 94.7, 5fm and RSG, etc?
