Academics 'queuing to quit SA'

Well that's one long wait, 2019 is the election right?
A lot could happen between now and then (referring to irreversible damage)

I love south africa, i love being south african. I would just like south africa to be the best version of itself. Without people that believe in it, it can never be the best version of itself.

I remember a time when race relations started to improve, jobs were created the economy was growing and houses were build for those without. Yes Zuma made us forget that ever since 1994 that was SA until he came along. Zuma has to go before I go, I'm not leaving until I show him the power Madiba & others fought for, the power of my vote and my voice.

If you leave you've lost, SA loses. Zuma wins

Fair enough.

In what way have I lost?

He said SA loses, not you.

He said SA loses, not you.
Exactly what I meant was you've lost against Zuma SA loses because you're allowing him. Ie the score is 0-1

I don't mean you've lost things, im saying you have lost the fight against him because you resigned

I am glad that there are still people like you left. I used to think like this but I lost it at some point.

At the end of the day I started feeling like a stranger in a strange land. I cannot relate to someone who will burn a clinic or a university or a school down.

I have tried interacting with the likes of SammyD or Ngwe24 on these forums to understand their point of view but they are like aliens. They so desperately want to be a part of some struggle like their parents were against apartheid but somewhere some wires got crossed. Their parents struggled to make the country a better place while they struggle to destroy the country.

I just don't beling in South Africa anymore which is sad since I spent a decade convincing my wife that we should stay in SA because I thought it had a bright future before reality set in.

That short-lived honeymoon is over mate.
Are you going to remain a fantacist for the rest of your days?

I'm sure I have a breaking point just like everyone else and I'm sure I'll realise when things go past it.

You say those days are over, lets see when the ratings agencies do their thing. I don't think we'll get junk, if they dont downgrade it means im not the only one with this outlook.

The burners and vandals are the vocal minority, they are weak minded cattle they'll jump on any bandwagon. If we have a leader that steers in a positive direction they'll jump on that bandwagon just like they jumped on the new SA bandwagon in the late 90s and early 2000's. Point is the negativity comes from the top at the moment.

Those leaving are being the change they want to see in the world. It is far more commendable to leave SA, liberate the colonised masses, thereby enabling them to have free houses, free education and freedom. Those remaining are in fact enslaving the masses in the typical colonialist western CIA-backed tradition of 'knowing' what is best for Africans - a scenario which invariably earns the do-gooder a spear in the kidney.
+1 :)
And then what? Despite his massive achievements he'll still feel all the negative effects of well everything you see when you read the news.

I can be a model citizen - join community watch, donate money and time to good causes, pay a mega tax bill, vote, be active in the community...and then at the end of the day still get fk'd over by zuma/crime/eskom/AA/corruption etc.

Nope...i shall go be a model citizen somewhere else. Not my loss...

Also the guy you've got there is also an expat that left his home country for greener pastures so not sure that is helping your case...

The only reason they might not downgrade SA is because the economy/banks is mostly in 'white' hands. But that will have to change at some future point. You know that don't you?

Like i said then I'll turn off the lights and leave but not before. I saw an SA before Zuma I want to see one after.

I'm not saying your decision is wrong (obviously it's totally up to every individual), but how long will you keep up that idea? Zuma till the next election, Zuma mk2 for the following term? Malema thereafter? Are you prepared to wait a decade or more to see a sign of an improvement in the political situation?

In all honesty a Malema term is the thing of nightmares. I've traveled the world and travel regularly i think for me the moment when I no longer long for home then this place will seize to be home.

I still get butterflies everytime I come home after a long trip at this point. The first time I hear "heyta" or "awe" when I return is like music to my ears. But like any lover once resentment sets in I will move on

Here's all the proof we need that things are going pear-shaped fast.
Our government's debt servicing costs exceed our budget (tax income).
In other words, we are technically broke as a nation.
Junk status here we come!

One of the things that lit a bit of a fire under my arse is that global attitudes to immigration are changing. There is more of a resistance to immigrants in the first world and countries are tightening up. The longer you leave it the harder it gets. Not to mention the rapid deterioration of the Rand means that you have less funds to start over.

I'm honestly losing hope for this country, I don't see things improving... sure the same can be said for the rest of the world, but we're living in the 3rd world and will remain that way.

The ratings agencies don't give a fk what colour the hands are. Unlike SA they aren't race obsessed.

They're not overly keen on unskilled migrants - there are few million too many in Europe already. They do welcome those who can positively contribute to the country's economy, however.

Different mindset I guess. I hadn't reached breaking point either - far from it. Moved because it seemed like the optimally move. I'd rather not fly that close to the sun if there is no need/gain driving it
