This one works quite well too.

Brother used it while he was on Roaccutane. Remember to stop taking any multivitamins containing Vit A, and no alcohol. You can do tremendous damage to your liver if you don't. Also have your cholesterol levels checked regularly, just to make sure that everything's in order.

Now that people mention it, I remembered. Stay out of the sun! I went into the sun while on it, veeeeeery bad idea.

Yup, nothing though is worse than dry lips . F me i went through tubes of labello like there was no tomorrow, then i just used vaseline cause i realized labello was crap haha. Vaseline is cheap and by far the best stuff i could find to keep my lips in check.

That's the one the lady at dischem showed me after giving me the accutane pills.

I'm trying to find info on how much vitamin A you can take while on accutane since I'm planning on taking a protein shake/meal replacement and most of them contain vitamin A.

The scarring that you have, was that all there prior to starting accutane or did you get some scarring during accutane too?

Have any of you eventually discovered what your acne triggers are? I'm still not sure what mine are. I think mine is mostly stress related as opposed to diet related.

After, sadly my parent could only afford roacatane about two and half years into my cystic acne. It also depends on the acne scars you have. Cystic acne is the worst you can get because the acne is basically huge boils that leave craters in the skin. This is not good as the scarring is very deep, 5-7 layers i think so nothing will remove them. All i remember in all honesty is that the roacutane took away the boils so i never scarred much after that.

I don't think protein shakes and meal replacements contain enough vitamin A to cause any issues.

I'm 27. I've had acne on and off since I was about 16. I've tried almost everything ranging from all sorts of topical treatments and anti-biotics.

My main concern is the scarring not the acne itself. I have a few scars on my temples. So I figure the best way to prevent any further scarring is to prevent any further acne, and since nothing else worked in the past 10 years, I'm hoping that Accutane will.

I got 60x20Mg Oratane capsules from Dischem for about R415.

Scar treatment (laser) in the future is going to cost me more than the accutane course, so prevention rather than cure, right?

AT 27?! Just grow a damn beard. I was on 60mg of Roacutane for 8 months as a teenager - it works. The side effects aren't pleasant, but I got out of school PT for a while so that was a plus. I got dry skin and joints, but no depression - I think the depression has more to do with being a teenager and acne, than with the medicine. They injected some or other **** into the scars when the treatment was finished. It helped, but the scars are still visible.

I still get more acne than a 31 year old should, but it's a lot better now that I don't shave and use a decent soap. I tried a "low dose" treatment a few years ago, but that did nothing for me.

Yea. You're only able to get it with a script afaik. The Roche Roaccutane was for R685.

No price increase in 15 years. That's impressive.

Roaccutane works like a bomb! I dont think there is anything that works as good as that. BUT....pain no gain. Prepare youself for a world of suffering. The things I suffered fro when I was on it is as follows:

1. Extremely dry skin - stock up on E45 cream
2. Dry and chapped lips and bleeding of lips - Stock up on Labello
3. Extreme lower back pain. Would get extremely uncomfortable when sitting for periods of between 15 - 30 minutes.
4. Eyes were dry and scratcy.

After my treatment...my face..and especially my back was clear! I hardly ever get a pimple on my face now...and now and again I might get one on my back or neck...but nothing major.

I am too scared to....I LOVE MAYO AND CHEESE!!!!! lolz When I die one day and they do a post mortem on me they will propably find that instead of blood...my hart has been pumping mayo! lolz. If those are indeed the triggers then there simply is no way I can give it up.

The few pimples I do get I would not exactly call acne. My face is spotless...it is just somtimes in my neck...in the hair most of the time...but that I suspect is caused by my hair when it gets a bit long.

Yea i also love cheese and mayo hahaha, nothing better than cheese grated mixed with mayo put on toast and grilled :D.

I find when i shave i get acne around my chin and i spent years trying to figure out what food was causing it and now it's just bloody shaving which is annoying cause i like a clean shaven face but i hate acne far more.

Look for something called vaya smooth at Clicks or Dischem. Apply after shaving. It burns like a SOB...but it seems to help. I get the same thing in the front of my neck when I shave...more like little red bumps even though I shave with the grain, not against it. It seems to help for it.

My 18 year old cousin committed suicide in Matric. He was on Ro-Accutane. I'm not saying that was the only cause, but it was definitely a factor.

Respect to everyone that has had to suffer heavy acne as a teen. My brother went through this and you know how cruel school kids can be with their remarks.

Like the others said, definately stock up on the vaseline when on this drug. I remember whenever my brother and I were fighting it was usually his lips that was the easiest target as it started to bleed very quickly.

I do have a beard except it only grows along my jawline and slightly above it. I've been reading that it's not really the dosage that counts but the cumulative dosage. I.e the total mg/kg you've taken after you've taken your course.

Occie, what dose were you on?
It seems as though accutane has worked for most people here.

Sjoe...I really cant remember. I do remember it was a rather big capsule (I think it was purplish in colour). Talk about a bitter pill to swallow...but it was worth it.

Also...remember...your doctor should be checking your liver function every now and again.

Why don't you first try Zinsel E by Imzo? Works better than these these drugs without the side effects. These drugs gives your liver a very bad beating!

Where can I get that?

I'm not sure why she prescribed accutane because when I went to the consultation I only had 1 pimple on my face. Maybe because she saw the previous scars and pigmentation and figured I can get it again? I already have the tablets but I think I'll only start taking it if I start breaking out again.
