Ever since following a low-GI diet I think my T-zone (forehead and nose) is less oily.

I use the Benzac formulation of benzoyl peroxide on my face and it reduces my acne to an acceptable degree. It is quite expensive though (around R 150 for a tube, and I use several tubes in a month).

So I control my acne reasonably well using benzoyl peroxide and a low-GI diet. I also gently wash my face twice a day with a face wash meant for sensitive skin and I apply a non-greasy moisturiser in moderation. Some evenings I am so tired that I pass out on my bed before having had time to wash my face though and then I pay the price a few days later when I have a breakout.

Aggressive shaving gives me acne-like bumps so I am very gentle when I shave.

I found the following website very useful: www.acne.org.

I also drank Roaccutane.

I was on a heavy does and nosebleeds, sunburn and cracked lips were the only real side effects. Did you guys go for live function tests each month? I also drank mine with milk, apparently it helps the body absorbing it.

Roaccutane is basically one massive boost of vitamin A (or doing the same at least) if I remember correctly.

EDIT: Buy lipice in bluk and leave it every where. I went to school one day without my lipice and it was HELL
Second EDIT: I got the generic version of it and saved a few bucks, Roaccutane was hellishly expensive. Dont know if you still get the generic though.

I Also took roaccutane for a while in my teens.

Every1 has pretty much summed it up here.

They warned me about dry skin, and i didnt listen. For the first week my skin wasnt dry at all,
then 1 morning i woke up and was like OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Only then did i start to use creams and lip ice to help curb it. So ye, dont do what i did.

Rather start using cream and lip ice from day 1 :)

Its really not that bad though man, and it works wonders!

Look for something called vaya smooth at Clicks or Dischem. Apply after shaving. It burns like a SOB...but it seems to help. I get the same thing in the front of my neck when I shave...more like little red bumps even though I shave with the grain, not against it. It seems to help for it.
Hey oc, is accutane/Ro only available on prescription?

MOST DEFIANTELY YES! It is a dangerous drug if not used correctly. Like I said earlier...the best thing for your doctor to do is to do liver function test on a regular basis while you on it as it can cause damage or liver failure. Also, for woman, the doctor will make you swear on your life that you WILL NOT fall pregnant while on the drug as it WILL cause birth defects!

Even without med-aid it's not too bad. I paid R415 for 60capsules. Considering how much I've spent in the past for acne creams/medication, this is nothing. And if it works, I'll only wish I'd started using it sooner. Accutane works out much cheaper especially considering it might save you on future scar improvement treatment.

Sorry to hear about your lack of facial hair. My beard is... well, lets just say that I could be mistaken for a Linux admin. If you're looking for less drastic options, I was on Neo Medrol for a while, and it works OK. Ask your dermatologist.

Korn, what's the price for the face wash? I recall seeing the benzac cream at dischem but not the face wash

Not sure hey,mum picks it up when she gets meds and stuff. Probably a tad pricey but it does help a lot!!! I also had another face wash but can't remember the name. Both made by Galderma I think.

What i find is when i buy a new face wash and my face is clear i am like ya that is business, then i break out and think hmmm WTF is crap and go try a new one hahah. Since i stopped shaving though it doesn't matter what i use on my face. I can even leave my unwashed the entire day and it's clear.

So killa you just letting it grow? Or are you trimming?

Got this razor with a trimmer on the end so i am using that, i am going to buy an electric one next month see how that goes.

The trouble is when i trim it i still get a couple pimples so i have to be very careful not to touch the skin but nothing as bad as acne, i have to be very gentle around my chin area, extremely sensitive. I keep it around a number one but my issue with it is that i have a patchy beard so it doesn't look great but it looks far better than a chin full of acne hahah. It's nice to see client now without first having to check my skin, it's also nice to be able to look people in the eyes without wondering if they looking at my skin :D.

I didn't mind acne as a kid even it left me with scars but FFS i'm well into my twenties now :(.

Shaving also irritates my skin, tried an electric but that gave me serious in growns, switched to disposables and seems much better now.
