Incredible Connection is running a really good special on these laptops.
What do you guys think of them?

As for upgrading goes, is it possible?
Like, upgrading to a 120GB HDD or upgrading to more than 1GB of memory?

The official site for the laptops: http://www.acer.co.za/acer/product....nd189e.c2att1=23&ctx1.att21k=1&CRC=3256361075

Seem to suggest that upgrading to a large hard drive and memory is possible.

that is actually not bad price. the 120Gb hard drive should be better than the 8Gb SSD, especially with the 1Gb RAM
We got a few of the WindowsXP versions, for our traders, a bit of a waste having 160Gb drive, they use less than 40Gbs.
I use 8Gb SSD model like this blue one, with extra 8Gb SD card to expand drive space.
just dump the linpus for Ubuntu, or Windows

I wanna dump Gentoo on the drive, I need to learn Linux ... :D

Was advertised somewhere on the forum already :) I'm saving for one - they only have a limited amount - so don't order too many.

Just remember - it will probably be coming from the UK - so plan for a month wait just to be safe.

I ordered a car part off ebay on Monday - they refunded me today cause they can't get stock - maybe I should use that.

They're great.

yes - it's possible

You'll need to buy whats essentially an iPod HDD as a laptop drive wont fit in place of the SSD. You'll be voiding your warranty as soon as you open the case.

I love my AAO 150 , with the 160gig HDD . Perhaps its because my Laptop is so antiquated (60gig HDD , intel celeron , 1.46Ghz , 512mb DDR2)

I have one. It's great.

Yes, it's possible. Apparently you void your warranty as soon as you open it, though.

8GB SSD is enough for me. The reason is that, for me, it's not a workstation computer; it's a portable computer. As such, it doesn't need super processing power, much hard drive space, or loads of RAM. What is important, though, is a good screen (the LED-backlit LCD is easily readable in the sun), decent keyboard (it's not full-size, but it's usable for me; a fairly small oke) and good battery life (around 3-4 hours depending what I'm doing).

I also have one.... Best purchase I ever made.... I only have the 8gb SSD model, but as sn3rd says, it is a portable computer, not a workstation... Now I can get on the roof, hold it with one hand, and align wifi antenna with the other hand... No more hassles!

This is one of the things I want to use it for, wireless setups.
Small is better.

But, having said that... For what, R500 more... getting the 'better' model (with large hard drive and more memory) is worth it I think.

It may be if you're planning on running windows.

The battery life isnt fantastic on my 120gb model but it sure it nice to have the extra space.

What is the battery like then bwana?

Bad? Really bad? Acceptable - in terms of, compared to the normal model I originally posted about.
