Having the misfortune of my dogs playing Frisbee with my vaio laptop and fetch with my Acer netbook I found myself in dire straits of requiring replacement screens and keyboard.

First Rectron, they are just plain incompetent and subtract from the Sony name as being their service agents.

First call technician listened to the sad story and said would call back with costs.
Second call was on hold for about 25 minutes, call disconnected
Third call technician was all like oh so sorry, we don’t have the part available but he will definitely call back with a cost and ETA
Now into the third week and still waiting for a call back....

Acer are quite close to me so decided to go there direct for a quote, what a rip-off!

Lets take into account that a netbook retails for R3500, they wanted R1800 for the screen replacement and R220 for a keyboard.

Bottom line is I purchased the Vaio and Acer screens from the USA. My landed cost per screen with VAT and shipping worked out to under R800 per screen and fitting time took under 10 minutes per laptop and they both working 100%.

I decided R220 for a keyboard was ok, so my wife went to Acer yesterday and they said they have it in stock, they require the netbook for 5 days!
What a load of hogwash! A keyboard replacement takes under 1 minute to do, yet they require it for 5 days?

Obviously they have work in process and are working on repairs, but come on Acer, are you unable to setup an express queue for repairs that take say under 10 minutes? You don’t think a 5 day turn around for a keyboard replacement is a bit much? During the 35 minutes it took you to locate the stock and do the invoice, you couldn’t arrange for a techie to clip it in?

Suffice to say she just purchased the keyboard and it took me all about 30 seconds to replace it, but that is just shoddy service from Acer.

//Ok morning rant over, time to go back to work.

I have 2 hp laptops i want to take to pieces, as I also received exteremly high prices from HP to repair. Service is just bad from these companies.

Yep, so far Acer is horrible if the product is not still under warranty, not to bad though if it is.

Had someone drop a printer on there acer laptop's keyboard. damaged the hard drive. They collected, repaired and returned within 2 days.

I will however say it was the worst install I have ever seen. I had to basically reload all the drivers myself after uninstalling a bunch of bloatware and rubbish that should not have been on the pc in the first place.

Acer are absolutely horrible even under warranty, I had a travelmate 8210 from 2006 till last year, in 2008 that laptop went in 11 times to Acer, the first time one of the USB ports stopped working, so I sent it in and they replaced the entire motherboard, second time the GFX chip overheated and toasted itself, turns out the engineer didn't put the heatsink on properly, third time it was the network card and so on and so on, eventually I got them to send techies to me and I told the techie to give me a brand new motherboard not a refurbished one and I installed it myself, my brother in law is still using it to this day almost 2 years later.

Would love to know as well, need a new screen for my lenovo and they want R1800 for it here.

what branch did you work with Lived666?

Also what sony model do you have?

A client of mine had his Vaio repaired through Rectron.

If I remember the invoice correctly, the replacement FAN was R750.
