Acer thinks Microsoft tablet will be bad for computing ecosystem

To date the East manufactured for the West per the platforms created/developed in the West. I've said it before ... it is high time that companies in the East come up with their own ecosystems and not just make things for American ecosystems. Buy RIM, take BB10. Take Tizen. Whatever. Creat new ecosystem with it's heart in the East and sell it to the West. Stop being slaves to Corporate USA.

Look at how Apple - the king of Corporate USA - turned against it's largest partner in the East and now wage war on them because they became a threat (by not accepting their slave status any more).

Everytime I see a new tablet/smartphone device announced a little piece of me dies inside, thinking great another consumer device to support in a corporate environment.

Standardize on one platform for the love of your IT staff.

With it's Windows and Office ecosystem MS has the whole world by the neck and Acer just makes things for this ecosystem. How do you break these chains? Thát is what Acer, Asus, Samsung, etc should focus on. As long as these companies just make things instead of create things they will remain "second class citizens".

I think the major issue here is Acer make a windows tablet, now MS is going to undercut them with their own product. So for Acer and others it would become less feasible to use MS OS on their tablets and force their hand to move to Android. Essentially MS cutting off its own nose. I presume they (MS) think they are going to "XBox" the Tablet industry....

"Other alternatives"??? There is no alternative. They have no choice but to stick with Microsoft.

Google has nexus, and it also bought motorola,so far so good, competition leads to more innovation, stop crying Acer, just think about how to produce a better product than surface

You may have gone off the deep end.

It's a bit more difficult to come up with a better Windows 8 tablet product that MS when MS has full access to the OS code and you have zero access to it and can only differentiate on hardware. With Android each OEM get full code access and can differentiate deeper than just hardware. MS seems to want to go the Apple route but doesn't want to openly say so to their "ex" partners.

Particularly the Acer part of the computing ecosystem, I should imagine.

Well the Acer hardware to date has never captured my attention, they are cheap, and that is about it, nothing else about it that captures the imagination. They are reliable as far as I understand as well, but my money always went to HP or Dell, they just looked the part, though the reliability was not that great. My Sony Vaio is still doing well.

I would think twice before buying an Acer product.

I have an Acer notebook which I bought in 2003 (and it had a higher resolution screen than most new notebooks these days). Served me well all over the world until I retired it and now it does duty for my kids. That thing is almost 10 years old already!

So in short, nothing wrong with Acer (except maybe their warranty which is fetch, repair and return instead of onsite).
