Adblock + Youtube = :)

What if you really enjoy their content and the only way they can make more is through the money they get from ads (so no sponsors) ?

I have never encountered such content, and if I do, I'm pretty sure there are enough people out there without ad blockers.

I recall reading somewhere that Google's own research revealed that less than 2 % of Chrome users worldwide installed adblockers, so they were content to leave the issue and let people continue using adblockers. For now.

I mean, one has to wonder how a company whose main form of revenue is from advertising allows add-ons that threaten that very revenue stream, and on their very own flagship browser. I guess they know it's just the geeks who do it. And a few of their friends.

As a pc tech I see lots of pc's, probably thousands over the last 10 years, and I can't recall a single one of them having an adblocker installed. That is of course those who are using chrome or firefox as the default browser.

It works equally well on FireFox as well, and also now on IE.

Never knew that till I saw your post and looked it up (on Google!). Shows you how little I have dealings with IE these days.

It's quite shocking how varied the mindsets are. I find myself now watching the first 30seconds of ads on channels that I like.

Even if the ad is 2hours long, you only need to watch the first 30sec for the advertiser to get charged.

An ******* like me spends 60 seconds to install AdBlock, and never have to watch that 30 second ad again.

You're missing the point. Did you even read my post?

I could easily skip the ad. I choose to watch the ad to support the content creator so they can make more of the content I enjoy.

You're just a leech.

I placate my conscience by liking the video (if it was good) because hey, I won't watch the adds unless Google makes it a requirement, and I'm giving the content creator something at least. Like HULU, you have to whitelist their site to have the adverts displayed in order to make use of their free service.

I have re-read my post, and cannot find anything that suggests that I did not read yours. I could easily watch the ad, but prefer not to. There are sure to be enough others that watch the ads.

Leech or whatever, I do not care.

EDIT: And if you're specifically referring to YouTube, I pretty much only watch music videos. It's not as if they're not going to make more because of ads.

Yeah you find those on dodgy sites, apart from views which I don't think sites earn revenue from, they get their money from clicks.

I use ads in my apps it's not compulsory to click them and they don't interfere with the function of the app but those clicks add up and the revenue goes towards upgrades, fees etc.

Not necessarily dodgy sites. I'll try and find an example tonight, haven't got full quality internet at work.

And ads in apps, that's the worst. The only app with ads I tolerate is Shazam. BBM is also going to be uninstalled soon, because of ads. It tells me there is a new BBM invite, and when you click it, there is no invite, but another menu, with an option to install the advertised app, in my case it was Onavo.

..... I've never seen an ad in BBM :erm: and I've used BBM on Blackberry, Android and WP.

I have BBM on my S3, this has happened last week. I also get notifications from the BBM shop, advertising stickers and all sorts of schit, but that I can deal with. The ads for other apps falsely presented as a BBM invite, not so much. If it happens again, I'll take a screenshot.

I placate my conscience by blocking the ads, I don't want to be responsible for a whole generation who don't know what it's like to have a real job :p
