Firstly, I'm not IT trained at all. The setup currently is: fibre > ONT > Zyxel VMG8924-B10A router that supplies the building. I cant change this, it is supplied by the landlord. I would like to manage my own little physical network from the router for 3 PCs and a printer. Would something like Ubiquiti edgerouterX work? (I do not want or need wireless, as the application I need to run between the pcs is full of crap and prefers a wired setup). Thus I only need internet access from the Zyxel router to the ER-x but all local non internet traffic gets run independently on my new sub network, (as currently the switching done by the zyxel router is horrible). Is this doable? Am I making the setup too complex? Do I need to change the edgerouter?
EDIT: I guess I'm just going to add a VLAN to the zyxel router that gets managed by the edgerouter. I hope I get this working as I dont really know what I'm doing.
