Additional DStv competitor details emerge

Comedy Central, HBO, CW, SyFy... Get that and you've got a subscriber...

Yeah and at R249 it'll certainly be a major upgrade from DStv, now if only I could figure out a way to turn supersport on on the weekends and turn it off again on monday 12am, without being charged an arm and a leg.

that decoder looks crap, no hdmi??? do they think we live in the stone age? Also, I see no mention of a remote control?!?

No HD channels, no sale... not for me anyway...

Love the tried en tested....

Will stick to Telkom for landline...
Will stick to WebAfrica....in the hope that they will NEVER reduce their overpriced pre-paid offering...

DStv is still king.....SuperSport is the best channel in the world...R500 is a bargain for:
Live Formula One weekend....everything LIVE.....!!!
Live Football (a gazillion leagues are streamed live)...HD
Live Cricket.....almost all international games are shown....HD...(I think..?)
Live Cycling.....TdF, etc...
Live Athletics....
Live Swimming....
Live Rugby...Super 14, Five Nations, Tri-Nations, Curry Cup...HD...
I can go on.....

Why, oh why, would I want to move....???

EDIT: There is nothing wrong with other players in the Market, but until another service provider offers me something BETTER than DStv, I not interested in moving on price alone....

I for 1 am not a huge sport fan so dont care about supersport , i know there are also many ppl out that that dont care either, but then again there are many people that only have DSTV for sport!
R250 for ODMs best package is cheap so will give em a go, oviously dependant on the channel offering that i hope is available soon!

people will move because there might be a better offer on the table... isnt that why people usually move? cous the grass is greener on the other side?

If their channel offerings are good, I will give up watching F1 Live. R500 a month for **** that is constantly being repeated is such a waste of money. I couldn't care less about rugby, cricket, athletics, swimming, cycling. I will miss my F1...but hopefully ODM is reading this thread and will look into it.

DSTV does sport well, VERY well. Supersport has become a South African household name, and the red S just adds to the excitement along with that instantly recognisable rugby-commentator's voice. And language preference is included too! Yes, they do sport VERY well. I like DSTV, even if they don't bend over backwards, there's some sort of pride in their success, and I'd probably just ADD ODM rather than choose. Especially if ODM is so cheap and flexible, investing in an extra dish is not so serious, and if you choose your packages you can get the best of both worlds.

It strikes me that another operator is just additional expense for the subscribers.

There's bugger all on DSTV most nights, so you'll need the new service, but you'll maybe not cancel because there's prolly something on DSTV that you want to watch, like, I dunno, Mythbusters or something. :(

And then there's sport; if DSTV gets the Australian Grand Prix and the new operator gets Singapore, you'll have to get both packages if you're a F1 fan, won't you?

DSTV is a repeated POS service that is waaaaaay overpriced

Bring on ODM!

odm satellite

which bird , which bird ???

The SIRIUS 4 satellite, located at 5° East.

If you have an existing dstv dish, you will need to either install a new dish pointing to the ODM satellite, or you will need to reposition your exising dish, making dstv reception impossible.

From 68.5E to 4.8E is about 63.7 degrees - this makes it impossible to share 1 dish with 2 LNB's

Exactly

Installing your own dish to aim at Sirius 4 would be even easier than trying to install one aimed at Intelsat 7/10, 4.8 degrees east isn't that off from North, and everybody knows where north is

They should consider two channels above all when implementing choice channels. Live Rugby, and Kyknet (for the afrikaans people). Although kyknet is a multichoice owned channel, they should get something alike (or even beter). I'll be more than happy to have JUST the sport (rugby) at R99 p/month. I don't give a rats ass about all the other useless crap on tv..except maybe a little discovery and history channel.

Or, how is this for a dream, Multichoice does a Supersport only package for like say, R149, I'll consider this and do ODM too

it is unlikely that they will enable external hdd recording, since the only reason dstv don't do it now is contractual and not technical.

dstv is really only m-net plus the supersport channel in terms of their cost recovery. i reckon between them tehey account for 95% if I am being generous to the rest of the channels.
