I am on a 4meg uncapped line with telkom as my isp and of a 3 days ago my line won't sync faster than 2560 Kbps. It used to sync at almost the full 4096 Kbps a few days ago, which is understandable as I am quite far from the exchange.

The attenuation values are still being reported as what they have been for ages and nothing has changed on my end. The attainable rate reported by the router is showing the max sync rate I can achieve as 3988 Kbps, which is correct as I used to be able to sync at similar rates before.

I have had Telkom recreate the port but the issue still persists. I have tried multiple modems and all seem to sync at max 2560 Kbps. I did see some telkom techies at the green/blue box the other day, could it be possible they moved my line to a slower port or something.

I have open a line fault with Telkom, but I am hoping there is something I can do myself to restore full speed.

Here are my line stats.

Mode:ADSL_G.dmt
Traffic Type:ATM
Status:Up
Link Power State: L0

Downstream Upstream
Line Coding(Trellis): On On
SNR Margin (0.1 dB): 102 160
Attenuation (0.1 dB): 590 315
Output Power (0.1 dBm): 192 123
Attainable Rate (Kbps): 4864 996

Path 0
Downstream Upstream
Rate (Kbps): 2560 512

Thanks for any suggestions.

Someone fiddled with your line, it has happened a few times in the past to me.
TelkomZA sorted it out for me permanently a few years ago.

Yeah someone or the Telkom system automatically downgraded you profile to 2560k. You just need them to put the profile back on 4Mbps.

4Mbps is about the max your line will get. I think you should be able to run 4096k fine without any issues but Telkom could if they wanted to improve those stats a bit by trying to eliminate noise by checking all joints but that is something that will depend entirely on the tech....

Fault was attended to by a Telkom tech. No feedback from him on what was wrong and the 2560 Kbps seems to be lifted but now I only sync at 2950-2989 Kbps. Attenuation values are being reported the same as what it was before this fault and SNR is at 6. No idea what they have done, but I'm not going to push them because they seem to incompetent and will report a fault again once I have got some info as to what has gone wrong. Any ideas?
