ADSL account with local/international split billing

Firstly let Telkom reduce the price for ADSL line. That will be the cheapest compared to purchasing the data. Why should we pay for the ADSL line monthly? Its once off payment everywhere. Why is Telkom charging for the ADSL line on monthly basis? Is there any other means to get cheaper ADSL line?

What you refer to is what is already implemented in the UK and everywhere else. I said it once and will mention it again. the only way to do away with ADSL monthly subscriptions is if Telkom allows for Local Loop Unbundling, which allows you to directly connect to the ISP from the Telkom Exchange, hence no need for an ISP to charge for DSL provisioning as you are directly connected. Telkom and the Government will however not look into it now as 600 000 DSL subscribers with a minimum of R154 subscription brings them in over R92mil per month.

This is nice, hoping this trend starts as client side routing is old considering many doing their own routing such that they really should be affording their clients this convenience. Question is this.. Local vs which provider. Also does seacom or isp's on them even have a common news server or mirrors? Not that thats the only reason to have it, lots of other local things i will be doing soon.

Has anyone answered this question? Just wanna know because I currently split my traffic myself and would like to move to the SAINET 10GB option, however, the deciding factor would be if one can access a news server?

Yup, I'm thinking they don't have a higher tier isp by providing on there except perhaps neotel assuming it allows some peering or something. unlike e.g. sat-3 provided thru saix or is which have their own news hosts.

Oops, momentary lapse in concentration there. But my thinking was that if they go thru Seacom..................whatever krycor said. LOL

FINALLY someone has opened their eyes to Data roll over!! Been trying to milk the population for WAY too long!!! And because of this I am :( leaving Afrihost for the "greener" pastures........Unless Afrihost can pull out a white rabbit

now if only cell phone companies would follow suit, OH and everyone else..........

If they would just wake up and make local free as they make MORE than enough on international as 99% of traffic is local..................

I'm getting such a thrill everytime i read mybroadband news articles...things just keep getting better and better!!! now, just get rid of the monthly cost of the adsl capability on your telkom line..

seems like a good idea but will only benefit people with quite a bit local activities
