Yesterday (30 Dec) at 11:45 my internet went dead.
Looking around I found the ADSL not working.
The D-Link modem states "ADSL Link Down"

I've switched immediately to my secondary modem, a Belkin. Same issue.
Swapped out the filter box, no change.
I even swapped out the telephone cable between filter and modem.
I logged a call with Telkom yesterday.

I just phone then again and apparently my call is waiting for an engineer to be assigned.

They can't give me an estimate as to how long it is going to take...
And tomorrow is a public holiday, again.

The SMS route might be worth a try, even if it reports a fault is already logged it might stir someone into action:

SMS only your faulty ADSL line number (eg: 0419999999) to 0123210212 and follow the reply prompts.

Telkom basicly told me. Because of the public holidays and people taking leave, they could not assign an engineer to the problem.

:erm: good luck. Been having an intermittent problem with my DSL going down at fairly regular intervals, every single evening around 18h30 until the next morning around 07h00. Sometimes during the day as well. Phone line is crystal clear and did all the stuff you did with modem, filters etc. Eventually logged a call on 20 DEC 2012. Still waiting. Got call references, escalation references, the works. But you just have to sit and wait for the monopoly to decide to attend to you the paying customer. Not much else you can do really.

I seem to find that telling them you use the line for business gets them to fix it in under 3 days no matter if theres a public holiday.

My dsl line went down the other month including the phone line itself, I reported it on Monday evening and it was fixed on Wednesday at Noon time.

This was the second week of December

I use that everytime with quick results

Just phoned telkom again. Still no engineer assigned to the call.
Apparently they have a backlog of calls.

Apparently they have a backlog of calls.

They said the same to me at first (before stating I use it for business) then suddenly a technician appeared at my box in 5 minutes either luck or business customers get higher priority (the amount of time it took me to go home from the mall)

So go into the Telkom Direct Store and complain there that you can't do your business while your line is down and log a fault on their phone.

I can totally understand how somebody can just go postal
After battling with my call from 20DEC I was just told that my call has been resolved and closed. This after I replied to their update that it is not resolved. So according to the rep I am now back at square 1. I am #$@#$@# fuming!!!!! Why we are stuck with such an incompetent service provider is beyond me.

Had Telkom at my place at 4pm. They tested the ADSL line and could not sync even with their own modem.
The guy phoned the exchange, and they could also not sync on my line.
Now, apparently it have to go back to Head Office to reconfigure my line.

If I correctly remember the terminology, they guy said my line is an IMAX line. The ADSL and Voice is one line at the exchange, not like the older systems that was two separate cabinets at the exchange. There is nothing that can be done at the exchange for a sinc problem as the DSLAM needs to be reconfigured at Head Office.

Same prob with me... Logged my call on 9th Dec and then on 24th sent me a msg saying problem has been resolved. Only to find my adsl is still not working. Had to then create a new fault and start over again. To date I'm still waiting for my fault to be rectified. I've never dealt with so much incompetence. No one at Telkom takes responsibility to look into ongoing problems. They all rag dolls with no strings attached, therefore can't resolve nothing!

Check your POTS filters.

Or plug all your phones out and then try your ADSL again.

Had to then create a new fault and start over again.

This seems to be a strategy when they are backed up with faults. Sometimes they SMS you and tell you to reply within 24 hours if the problem is not resolved, which allows you to keep the same reference number. At other times, they just SMS you to tell you the fault has been restored, and if it hasn't, you have to start all over again.

Same thing here in Blairgowrie - ADSL down for days but phone works. Also told that the issue was resolved when the phone went down due to lightning 2 days ago and we reported it so they fixed that, but still no ADSL. Seems it's a country-wide issue but we are not getting any info from these clowns. Highly frustrating when people rely on the ADSL for business use.

Always have good luck with Telkom so you must be unlucky :D

Are you a Telkom ISP customer and is your line with them and do you use it for business or personal use?

If answer is no to most its your ISP then who you should complain to not Telkom

Still waiting for the ADSL to be fixed. And it's weekend again. So, another boring weekend.
It's bad when your work and your play are on the internet. And the Telkum takes their sweet time.
I've chewed through my 3G contract already. Something I normally can't even use up in a month.
It does not help that you phone them 3 times a day and even escalate the problem. Seems like it's only used as toilet paper.

Any other ADSL provider in SA?
I know, there is no one else...

@Ichigo - Seems like my luck has run out after a few years of good service.

In answer to your questions, Telkom is the ISP and it's for business use...

Been having the same problem this week. Same thing happened in November and I didn't have adsl for 16 days. It seems like you have no choice but to wait. I couldn't even get a refund out of them. I think I'll try the 'business' line.

Apparently, an engineer was assigned this morning. Talk about slow. 2 days to assign another engineer to the problem.

I keep phoning them. And my account, although private is used for work.
And I keep pressing on the fact that this is costing me money as I have to now use 3G.
