ADSL Down in Cape Town?

Totally Pissed Off

I am in also in Fish Hoek.
My line has been down since about 9am this morning. The router syncs, but has a timeout making a PPPOE connection.
My Router is a DLink and its log says:

> pppd 2.4.3 started by root, uid 0
> Timeout waiting for PADO packets
> Unable to complete PPPoE Discovery

I phoned up the 0800375375 this morning and had to waiting a whole bleeding 50 minutes before I spoke to an idiot who reckoned he could see something wrong with my line. Said Idiot gave me a telkom reference number and claimed he had marked it as urgent (Yeah right).

My line is still down and the day is almost over. I have to use my crappy cellphone net atm, am so so angry right now I have to be careful not to smash the keyboard :mad::mad::mad:

I have since tried phoning the 0800375375 number again... but guess what, its engaged :mad::mad::mad:

Hi, live in Richwood and still getting the same problem, you can also try the number 0800 203 125 but I spent 15mins holding and nothing. Typical Telkom for you, seems like everything ending with kom is screwed. Telkom, Eskom go figure....

infuriated

the 0800375375 number is engaged !!
just tried the 0800 203125 number. Option 3, engaged. Option 2, engaged. Option 1, hold for a bit. Get a Mooing Cow, Cow reckons that she cannot help me, She says I must phone the 0800375375 number. I tell her its engaged. She says so try again or hold on. I try explaining that I dont even get the hold music. She makes out like its not her problem and does not care. I ask to speak to someone else higher up. She slams the phone down in my ear !!!:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

depressed

My ADSL line is still down :(( :(:(:( Still getting PPPOE failures, no word from telscum. Is anyone else having these problems still ?

Can connect but they have not fixed the damn router yet I think as I cant get performance yet
- In Monte Vista

I'm in Fish Hoek too -- ADSL dead since midnight last night. Had to buy a modem (!!!) this morning so that I could connect. I've never had an outage this long before... anyone know what's up in Fish Hoek? Fault report claims that there's a problem "in the exchange".

Still bad in Cape Town Edgemead.
I know it's not my modem, cause that got replaced because of firmware update.
My line syncs fine.
Some times it's fast for both and local and inter, then it's dog slow.

aaaaaargh! Dam Telkom fix the Edgemead exchange or dslam ports.
It's worst than dial-up.<----Ready to break something.

Yeah, i havd had the same problem since Saturday morning. The Telkom exchange went down on Friday night but did not come back on properly hence the data transfer issues. I have contacted both parties (ISP and Telkom) and after lots of finger pointing we still sit without proper DSL connectivity.

I cant even play wow. It has been 5 days already, lots of areas afftected.

Telkom sucks balls!

Hey everyone... the problems everyone is having is all part of the same problem that happened on Friday..

This is not ISP or router related.

Everyone has just got to hang in there!! play cell phone games to get your gaming fix :) haha.

This is absolutely terrible by any company or countries standards :(

Anyone doing anything about it

I live in an area that is affected by this. Can connect, but packet loss is like 50%, very unstable. It is incredibly frustrating. I don't even know if Telkom is aware that there is a problem. I have reported this issue so many times now to both the ISPs (WebAfrica, Axxess, Imaginet, etc) as well as Telkom and I am still not sure if anything at all is being done about it. Will it go on like this indefinitely?

Krayon from WebAfrica, do you know whether Telkom id actually acknowledging this as a fault and attending to it? Please advise...I am so pissed off and desperate now. There are quite a few areas affected here and no one seems to be doing anything about it. They all think its been resolved. At this point I wish someone would just tell me what bloody exchange it is, and I will go look myself, seeing as Telkom doesn't seem to give a ****!

Hi all

As far as i am know both ISP (MWEB) and Telkom are aware of the problem and have been in dialogue as to how they are going to fix it.

Rest assured that the IDOT(telkom) is aware of it but when it will be fixed is entirely up to the IDOITS ability - which might not be much at all

If you phone MWEB technicaly support you are greeted with the message telling you all the areas affected and that they are working on the problem, I spoke to a technition at MWEB and he said the problem is on Telkoms side and they are in dialogue with Telkom as to when it will be fixed. I would hope that the 2 of them will work 2gether to resolve this issue speedily

lets hope!

dammit i am majorly p!ssed with Telkom's cr2p service and nonchalant attitude and apparent incompetence. they suck major balls

here is sumthing to ponder

my m8 works for vodacom technical support (data division) and he says when they go down they get their users up fast - it does not take phucking 5 days to figure out their is a problem.

Apparently the 3g service was down somewhere in jHB for about 2 hours and that was disgracefull by their standards

prompt, thorough and efficient service!

dammit it all

if only ping rates were better with wireless...............

It seems as if it is up again - "knock on wood" - fast and stable speeds again and can actually send mail. Will report on how it goes, but it seems whatever the issue at the exchange was, they FINALLY came around to fixing it. Let's hope it holds. Other people that were affected also back online?
