I'm not even gonna call Telkom anymore. I'd rather talk to the wall and feel more accomplished. :erm:

Since early June that we had that whole area ADSL outage (exchange in front of Sanlam), the DSL line never recovered. I've spent hours and hours wasting time calling Telkom and Mweb, troubleshooting, monitoring via firewall etc.

Pretty much the time they finished the building next to them, across the Tyger Waterfront.

When doing speedtests, I'm lucky to even reach 600ms ping to JHB MWEB.

Anyone else have these issues in the area? Or any knowledge of what's going on?

Tracing route to telkom.co.za [196.43.22.222]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 * * * Request timed out.
2 * * * Request timed out.
3 * * * Request timed out.
4 * * * Request timed out.
5 * * * Request timed out.
6 * * * Request timed out.
7 * * * Request timed out.
8 * * * Request timed out.
9 * ^C

Given up after that, put back on failover again.

you are not alone .... my what is suppose to be 10Mbps line is hardly breaching 1.5Mbps.... For a year now the exchange upgrade was cited as a reason for poor connection speed by Telkom, and as you pointed out talking to the wall has proven to me more productive than calling Telkom ..

alas what can one do ... we are stuck with this pathetic excuse of overpriced and under-delivered services we have.

Well, I convinced the partners to cancel our 4mb Mweb DSL line, but still keep our tel line and data line with telkom, until hopefully one day the area gets an exchange upgrade. Just wondering how long till that gets congested...

We actually got a Neotel link up today, 5mb synchronous speeds. First test was 4.85 down and 4.6 up. :)

Seems like WISP's are the only viable options here. Or of course fibre if you got the capital for it.
