ADSL ISSUE DURBANVILLE

I'm no expert, but remember reading somewhere on this forums that < 11 for the uplink SNR is actually not that good.

Hey

Well a telkom technician came out to my house yesterday, testing the line and such, and declared everything to be fine. I then told him that my line only degrades after 6.30pm. So after chatting a while and confirming that the issue occurs on different ISPs, he told me what he can do is go to the local box and change/replace my dslam and that I must test my line again that night.

Tested the line yesterday evening, but the problem still persist.

Heres my SnR / LA over 1 day 10 hours, im assuming it takes the current SnR and LA, this was taken at 7am today, im sure its worse at night, ill post another one tomoz. But its clearly lower than before with quite a few errors.

Cause : Major cable break on Sat 3

This is why. Today it will probably be useless to test your line. :P

horrendous speeds all round.. taking ages to download emails.. never mind trying to play COD...

After visiting our neighbours and confirming they're experiencing the same latency problem as I do, I finally got through to some technician who knows his stuff.

He told me he looked at our area's DSLAM stats, and the outgoing traffic sky-rocketed since early January (When my problems started). He told me he assisnged a technician in my area to look into it. 2 days later the technician came, again testing my line and confirming everything is fine. Then told me he will put in a request for our DSLAM to be upgraded, because atm it cant handle all the BW effectively. How long this process will take is a mystery though.

Strange how it suddenly went up by so much that our DSLAM cant handle it, thought it would gradually deteriorate. Mayb a few people got those new accounts which is capped to 384k during office hours but unlocks after hours and can dl at up to 4mb speeds.

Well ill let u know when they fix the problem. It took nearly 2 months to just find the problem.... can just hope for the best i guess.

Metalspawn, how's your latency lately ?

Mine's been fine for a couple of days, except for last night, where it was terrible for an hour or so. (Metalspawn, you should notice that your 'best' latency has dropped back to a lower number now...they switched to a new fibre backhaul link on Tuesday I think)

Telkom also switched me to a different DSLAM, but it made no difference, also had a techie come visit me, line checks out just fine.

Reminds me of my line other night my wow was freezing every few secs and couldnt heal propally yet my line stats are excellent and i'm on a low usage exchange, but the internet randomly disconnects, like last night and this morning therefore have to ask for port reset. So far no technician has fixed it yet.

hmm, I wonder if this is related. I'm in Durbanville, Aurora area, and since beginning to mid Jan I've been experiencing a large number of linesync issues. My line stats are unchanged from what they were previously.

The drops are generally random, but I did notice an interesting pattern upon checking my router logs. There is a higher than usual chance of a drop occurring at 02:20, 06:20, 10:20, 14:20, 18:20 and 22:20.

Been meaning to get on Telkom's case, but I am a lazy bastard :o and it is only an annoyance when I am gaming online.

Always at 20 past the hour....WTH??????

I've seen similar patterns, but never that precise.

20mins and 15secs if you care to be even more precise (give or take 2 secs either way) ;-) And not always, sometimes it will go a whole day and the line is stable.

Very odd, and I have removed everything from my line other than my router.

Since 9pm im having allot of page load failures for local and international sites.. Rebooted router 3 times.. Rebooted pc 3 times.. Can barely get into a game(QuakeLive), cant play because of constant time outs.. pings spikes to over 100ms+ then drops to 60ms again.. Then game times out.. If i try to go to a website, it does not work on first load.. Have to refresh 2 times before page starts to load and sometimes only loads half of the page..
Im in Protea Valley on 384k... WTH is going on with dsl!?!?!

Do you by any chance have a burglar alarm linked via a radio signal to your security company?

Also been getting a lot of disconnects over the past 24 hours (Durbanville)

I'm only a km or 2 from the exchange and can't sync to 4mb either - had to settle on 3

Nope, it uses the phone line, also it does not not dial out unless it needs to (verified against detailed billing), and to make doubley sure I unplugged it for a few hours, and still had occasional drops at those times.
But now that you mentioned it, I suppose it could it be a neighbouring system?

My problem is quite simple, b4 7pm during week (monday - friday) my internet is perfect, stable, a dream. After 7pm and over weekends it just goes wack, with inconsistant ping replies, timeouts, spikes, internet will also freez from time to time for 5-10sec. I never actually get disconnected though.

I'll just have to wait until they decide to upgrade our dslam :( Might take weeks/months/years/centuries.. who knows.
