Recently what's been happening is my ADSL Line keeps on dropping, but phone seems fine. There was lighting a few weeks ago and that broke the router, so we bought a new router and it worked again, a few days later the ADSL line started to drop and then it would come on again, there aren't specific times when it would drop or stay on, it occurs at random. I got in touch with my ISP and they said it could either be the router or ADSL line. They said I could log a line fault, which I would do, but don't want to waste money and pay telkom if it is in fact not their problem. As I said the phone seems fine now, but a while ago it was also down and came back up recently. All this might sound somewhat bizarre, but it is rather annoying. I would just like to hear if you think the problem is most likely Telkom or not?

Perhaps you are syncing to high? I know on 10mb I kept dropping so I dropped to 8mb and now all ok.
Can you post your stats?

Should I post the stats from the router, like the attenuation and line speed etc.?

Also, I copied those stats and as I was about to post them, the line dropped and came back on, then the stats changed again, should I post the stats from before and after?

I copied the statistics from the router and then pasted in Word, now I took screenshots of the pasted statistics, then I uploaded the images to Imgur, as I wasn't sure how to get them in the post. Sorry for making it complicated, wasn't sure. Here's the link to the images: http://imgur.com/a/nOQWH

Looking at your stats, it appears that your line is noisy. I can see this this by your 'SNR Margin' (Signal-to-Noise Ratio); the higher the better. You can see when this figure is higher (indicating less noise on the line), your attainable rate is better.

I'm no expert, but I think an SNR margin of about 6 is your minimum for a stable connection.

I also have SNR margin issues sometimes and when my router loses sync, I can hear major static on the phone line.

EDIT: Changed the minimum number.

Ah thank you, planning on getting telkom out, hoping they'll be able to pick up the fault, as the line doesn't always drop and it doesn't drop at specific times, so I'm not sure if they'll be able to pick the problem up.

This use to happen to my line. It would drop sporidically. I would log a fault and Telkom would say my line is fine and then after a couple of hours or normally within a day my Adsl would come on again.

This happened about two or three times a month untill finally my adsl went completely dead incl my phone line. This time I logged another fault the technician came out and after a couple of hours my line and Adsl was back on. So far not one diconnect in about a month and the line is 100% stable. I would definitly say have a tech come check it out.

Definitely something causing a few errors on the stats and random readings/syncs

When the errors are high the readings are bad and when they low they good

Does the weather change your line stats? if so it could be an uninsulated Telkom cable somewhere where water gets in otherwise theres a fault in the exchange/dslam

I haven't checked if weather impacts the stats, will take a look when it's raining again or so
