I'm currently with Telkom with Adsl line of 4mb package, but i'm getting about 1.7mb download - is this normal, based on the specs provided below?

Based on in the forum link to Attenuation test for estimate line speeds - I should get bit higher download speed

Mode: ADSL_2plus
Type: ATM
Status: Up

Downstream Upstream
Line Coding(Trellis): On On
SNR Margin (dB): 163 232
Attenuation (dB): 20 39
Output Power (dBm): -512 -150
Attainable Rate (Kbps): 27916 1355
Rate (Kbps): 2048 511
D (interleaver depth): 1 1
Delay (msec): 0.25 0.24

Looks like a pretty stable 2mb package....

But you say 4mb suppose to be

Yes your right thats what im getting but around 1700 down 200 up +-

For me its behaving like 2mb line but wonder if i shouldnt double check with telkom to make sure they put me on the correct package?

Yup pretty much syncing @ 2Mbps so you are not on a 4Mbps line. Your SNR is slightly low for your attenuation but nowhere near causing any problems.

My 4mb line is also synching at these low speeds and Telkom have for 2 weeks now firstly claimed that no call is logged and after another week of reporting it again done diddly. Just a few months ago I was singing their praise but it seems its back to the standard Telkom service levels I have my line listed as a business line and pay for "priority" service so for residential guys I really feel sorry judging by the service I get.
