ADSL pricing benchmarks: is Telkom competitive?

Man that whole article made me laugh!

Telkom is scum and unfortunately that will not change until some heavy competition enters the market :(
 
Really stupid writer.

The title says "SA", yet the article is all about Telkom? We all know Telkom has bad value for money. But mybb obviously decided to overlook the other ISP's that we have in SA which are a hundred times cheaper per gig (uncapped *cough*).

It would have been more interesting the writer had actually compared our best ISP's like Openweb and CO. to those UK and AUS ISP's.
 
There's a difference comparing lowest package in UK to the lowest package in SA
might cost the same but there's massive difference in the two think this is what Dr (i bought my degree) doesn't understand.....
 
I think the Telkom information ministry was joking. 'Companies' that wish to compete are not controlled by government. They do not rely on government legislation to remain a dominant legislatively-forced monopoly acting against the interests of the people. Telkom is mandated to be anti-competitive.

Other South African ISP's don't provide fixed lines. This article compares the total packages (line rental + data) from different ISP's from the UK and Australia to SA's only fixed line provider, Telkom. It's an attempt to show how ridiculous Brian Armstrong's claims are about how well Telkom compares internationally. Telkom doesn't offer uncapped.
 
Just to clarify, In Australia, Bigpond is simmilar to Telkom. They have the monopoly here and are one of the most expensive ISP's. Also, they only have 24month contracts.

I use iiNet. 24mbs, 400GB for $89/month.

= R1-55/Gig.

No matter how you chop the numbers and which ISP you use, SA sucks.
 
Those Telkom prices don't include voice line rental. Do any other countries charge extra for that, if not add that to Telkom's pricing. Not that it makes a difference, they're uncompetitive either way.
 
We all knew Telkom was lying through their teeth... but anyway, it is nice to see it in Black and White.
 
Low usage users should leave ADSL and opt for 3G like Cell C and Vodacom 's 2gigs for R150. You are doing yourself a great disservice using ADSL

Lulz. Even with that Telkom got pwnt. That's like comparing an entry-level Lamborghini to an entry-level wheelbarrow. Only in this comparision the Lambo is a bit cheaper. Comparing narrowband 384kbps to 10 or 20 mbps connections is just LOL-worthy and shows how far these clowns are reaching to try and justify their stupidly, insanely, ridiculously high prices.

CellC should add that in there advert poking fun at Voda, show telkom first in the wheelbarrow.
 
I knew from when I saw that first statement from Dr Brian Armstrong that he is a real douchebag. If these tables are excluding the ridiculous line rental charges then the picture is even worse than shown here.

What do you have to say to this article Dr Brian Armstrong???

This article does not clearly show how Telkom rips us off! For the same price which we more or less pay for a 384k ADSL line, you can get a 50Mb uncapped unshaped unstuffed up line in the UK together with a with a cell phone and more!
 
Telkom and cheap, I don't think they belong in the same sentence. They just want to make more profits and rip the users off.
