Hi all,

I'm currently looking at getting an ADSL line installed, on Telkom's Smart Advanced bundle. (4 mbps line, 20 GB cap). It seems to be a good deal, but I just want to see what others have to say about it, and what my other options are, for that same price, R569. Any other recommendations, other than Telkom? I need the entire package, copper line, ADSL and provider.

Also, I've been using Telkom 3g for my internet up till now, how does a 4 mbps line compare in terms of speed?

Thanks!

NOBODY but Telkom offer phone lines.

Only the ADSL part and the ISP.

And I guess not three MyBB users would agree on an ISP...

ADSL lines are only installed by Telkom. So no matter which ISP you will still have to pay the line rental. Where are you based?

Break down your product:
The phone line - forced, with telkom (can't change)
The adsl line - with telkom (can bundle with another ISP for a reduced price, drawback is telkom techs can't custom change your speed)
The data package - this you can change (Telkom ISP, Afrihost, Mweb, Webafrica etc)

Question is, what are you doing with your product? Are you using the nightsurfer on it to download a lot? Or are you only using the 20GB, then it is best to move to a cheaper product from another ISP.

I've been tripping over my current 10 gb cap on 3g, so a bigger bundle would be useful, and the unlimited night data would let me do some game downloading on steam etc. I do find it ridiculous that we're forced to pay for a line that I'll almost never use. I'm based in Durban, Glenwood area.

It seems that overall the price for this bundle is good, when compared with taking the line plus ADSL plus ISP. What's Telkom like to deal with though, if issues arise? With them at the moment, but haven't really had to deal with any problems.

Finally, what's the line speed like, compared to a 3g connection?

I dont think the price for 20 gig cap is good, and you would find better value with different isp

Ill give me as an example, i have a 2mbps Uncapped Account with Telkom. The reason i did this was because i need "a Lot" of data around 50 GB per month but i don't need it very quickly, I'm happy to wait a little longer for youtube videos to load ect.

The reason i didn't go with the Telkom 10mbps 50 GB cap was simply because the 2mbps uncapped was actually cheaper.

2mbps Uncapped = R394

10 mbps (50GB) = R584

Does that 10Mbps 50Gb include voice line rental as well?
