ADSL setup problem

Hi everyone, this is my first post so this might sound like a noob question but here goes. I applied for a dsl line the week before last, on tuesday got a call from Telkom to say that my line was ready so I exited that it took so quik anyway, so I went out to buy the ADSL modem, I signed up with axxess went for the 3gig semi shaped. So this is where my trouble starts. I connected up the modem and then I phoned Telkom to verify my line and then Im told that my line does not want to sync. I also notced ADSL light on my modem flashing, anyway, so I phoned Telkom again since I got "disconnected" they said that there might be a problem at the exchange (he did not sound to sure), I was told that since I was a new customer they would escalate my request to have my problem sorted. My question is this since I opted for the self install could I have missed somthing? Thank you for your time. Ps. Dont mind the grammer im using my phone to write this post (damn these small buttons).
 
If you remembered to plug in the filter, no, you didn't do anything wrong. The guy that told you the problem's at the exchange is 100% correct in all probability.

Thanks for the reassurance dj_jyno, I just wanted to be sure. How important are the filters? because, I have two phone lines and only one of the lines has a filter on it, but, the line without the filter has the modem connected to it and another phone, could this be a problem?

it may well be the problem ALL Tellephonic devices must go through a filter except the ADSL modem, alarms systems fax machines anything :)
 
To my surprise Telkom sent a tech to my house, turns out my line wasnt enabled at the exchange even tho they said it was. *Sigh* This is becoming a real pain, I hope It's worthed.
 
Yeah didnt expect that, anyway the tech said by Tuesday it should be resolved. He said the strike doesnt affect him, does this mean the strike is still on?

Only certain staff are striking - most don't work anyway. The workers are working...!!!
