ADSL speed upgrades and uncapped prices

How will I know when my line has been upgraded from 1Mbps to 2Mbps? (currently on Afrihost bundled uncapped)

Your line will sync faster and your speeds will increase marginally, ie from 106 to around 120KB/s.

Do I need to restart my router daily to re-sync or will this happen automatically?

I know my sync increased when I upgraded but I had to reboot my router to get the speed. Other people saw a speed increase without having to reboot. I suspect it's down to the router.

Cybersmart can kiss my bottie if they think they can go ahead and upgrade me without my approval.... There is will be hell to pay I tell you :D

Very disappointing that MWEB are the most expensive - I guess someone has to pay for all the marketing they're doing!

I upgraded from 384 kbps to 1 mbps, and the extra speed is great, but my monthly data consumption hasn't changed much, so I don't know how thay can justify an 85% price increase!

I use a 1mb Mweb uncapped account with my 4mb line, this might sound crazy to you, but it eliminates "rubberbanding" caused by limited / fluctuating line throughput and thus leads to a very satisfying online experience!

Why do you say only marginally ? I know this is telkom, but I reckon his download speed should just about double up to around 200KB/sec.

More importantly, is there still anyone, with an inkling of common sense, who thinks that this is actually going to happen within any vague sort of timeline that telkom puts forth ?

I think froot was explaining what will happen if your line syncs at 2mbps but you are still on a 1mbps data package... As in, you will pretty much get the max data throughput from a 1mbps account.

I'm really hoping I see my line speed double next week...I'll be onto the phone to upgrade as soon as I see it.

ok yeah, didn't think of that. makes sense.

Cybersmart MD Laurie Fialkov said that they will automatically establish whether a client’s line is syncing at 2Mbps, and will then upgrade the subscriber’s uncapped account to 2Mbps.

“We will inform the customer of this upgrade via e-mail, giving them the opportunity to downgrade should they wish to,” said Cybersmart CEO Laurie Fialkov.

Opt out upgrades?
There's a R115 difference and they're doing it automatically.
I'm pretty sure that's illegal...
