Hi Everyone.

I am very sure this has been asked, somewhere along the line, but I don't seem to get a concrete answer...so here goes:

I have an ADSL lin from Telkom. I have a router that I have bought (not from Telkom), and two different ADSL ISP Accounts.

I have a Playstation 3 - so I enter the ISP Login details onto the router, as it has to connect to the internet automatically.

Problem is - I want to use a computer, same router, but with a different ISP Account.

It seems that I cannot install both ISP Login Details on the router (btw - its a fong kong model, no name on it, or even serial number - so no support) - fair enough.

But I also seem to have difficulty "dialing" from a PPPoE coonection from my computer (running Windows 7), as the connection times out.

Is it possible to have this done without getting an additional line or router?

Any assistance would be much appreciated - and I welcome any explanantions or questions too. I am sortof not a complete disaster around computers, but compared to some geniuses on this site - I am a noob!

What you are looking for is called "half bridge mode" or "PPPoE with passthrough"

When your router is set in that mode (if it supports that mode) then you put the default settings into the router so that the PS3 will always be able to connect. Then you create the PPPoE dial-up account on your computer for the other account. Make sure you set it to "never disconnect" and "redial if disconnected"

What I'm doing is leave my router default (DHCP/ADSL dial) and connect my PC wireless through there, then hook up my Xbox on the network on my PC and "share" my wireless connection to it, I usually have a static IP address for my Xbox connection.

This works because I have a kvm switch between my monitor and xbox so I usually game on my LCD (which is a 22" LG widescreen)

Not sure if this will work for your PS3 setup.

I'd always recommend buying a decent router, shop around and check out for one with features you need...

Acidzor, your way of doing it would work, however it won't allow you to use a different account for the Xbox/PS3.

If your router doesn't support half-bridge mode or PPPoE passthrough, then you would have to either get a new router OR setup your router in bridging mode so that you can dial multiple PPPoE connections from the nodes behind the router (eg. a PC or PS3).
I'm not sure if the PS3 can dial a PPPoE connection though. If it can't dial both PPPoE connections from the 1 PC and share the connection that you want to use with your PS3.
This method is a bit more complicated, because you may have to alter the routing table :(

im using a Netgear DG834GUv5, when i go to "basic settings", i see PPPOE (session 2). Does anyone know wat this means? also right at the top it says "Does your internet connection require a login?" yes,no, bridged, its checked on yes. However, I can still create a dialup connection in windows and login with another username and password. Does that sound right?

necro, you have a decent netgear router that does support PPPoE passthrough - like you've said yourself.
You firstly had to select 'yes' from the "Does your Internet connection require a login?" options. That would give you an Encapsulation dropdown listbox, where you have to select PPPoE from the list. By doing so, you would be dialing the account with your router.

I'm not sure about this though, but I think that you have to have PPPOE-RELAY enabled, which you can found under the WAN Setup, to let your router be in half-bridge mode. If PPPoE relay isn't the same as PPPoE passthrough then someone should please correct me.

I got the instructions from the usermanual on Telkom's website: http://www.telkom.co.za/products_se...modems/netgear/support/Netgear Usermanual.pdf

If Eugenef has the same router, then he striked it lucky :)

Hi huys - thanx for all the replies.

I have the option to select to select PPPoE LLC, and then 1483 Bridged LLC. If I select the latter however, the username and password however erases as soon as I submit. - does this mean that my modem cant do bridging?

Alternatively, I have tried not putting any settings onto my router, and connecting a second computer to a LAN port on the router. I then create a PPPoE dial-up connection on both (different ISP's), but the connection doesn't want to dial on either PC however. Can this be down?

no, it means you can't do "half-bridge" ... only full bridged mode.

Describe for us how you are creating the PPPoE connections. maybe you are going wrong with one of the steps.

Which operating system by the way?

You're welcome to post your router brand & model here, then we can dl its manual and check if it has an option for PPPoE passthrough (half-bridge mode).
If its a D-Link DSL2640U by any chance, then it can do half-bridging by simply adding bot PPPoE & Bridging WAN interfaces.

as he said in the first post...

Ah thanks, missed that part.

If the router doesn't have anything stipulating PPPoE passthrough or PPPoE relay, then you're pretty much stuck in modem or bridging mode.

Same question, different toys, can I piggyback this thread?

I have Telkom adsl with good speed for home office on 50Gb . But added Netflix and want to add big-ish cloud storage so the unshaped 50Gb not enough.

Could I add an uncapped account into the mix? Easiest w'be if the same Ethernet home LAN can be used to get new account to the AppleTV, that way all the computers are unshaped and Netflix is uncapped...

Solution needs to be cheaper than just getting lot of additional data from Telkom... Thx!
