ADSL upgrades: what if you cannot get 10Mbps?

Telkom said that it is continuously seeking to improve the user experience of fixed line broadband access.

They've been saying that for years now. When is something actually going to happen?

They scammed me one month of 10mb service, even though my exchange only supports 4mb.
They said, the upgrade was known and the costs are on your.

Typical TELSKUM.

I'm very happy with the current 2mbps speed! Telkom improved a lot over these years.

Well at least they ARE upgrading everyone for free and have been doing so the last couple of years?
I agree things should be a lot better compared to the rest of the world but at least things are starting to move, especially with the 20/40 Mbps VDSL services.

we'll get there, someday......... :p

my exchange is supposedly 10Mbps, but they can't get it to sync faster than about 6Mbps.
so naturally i'd rather stay on 4 than pay for 10Mbps.

10 = 4 => no more than 4, but 7

Well, my exchange "supported" 10Mbps, and my line was on the old 4Mb is 10Mb or maybe 4Mb deal, and sync's at somewhere between 6 and 7 Mbps. Currently Telkom says that 10Mbps is not supported in my area, and they can offer me 4Mbps ... but my line is sync'ing faster than that. Very odd.

I'm still trying to get downgraded back to 4Mbps. I only sync at 3Mbps, I've phoned 4 times now with all 4 calls going past 30 minutes waiting time before I eventually just hang up. I've PM'd TelkomZA on here and he haven't responded as well.

Doubling the speeds isn't nothing. If they keep at it we'll have pretty good speeds, or don't you understand the laws of doubling?

Also, 20/40Mbps is pretty damn fast man - faster than the average American and on par with a lot of European DSL users.
The Price will come down soon for VDSL.

Does this mean our lines should sync at more than 4Mbps if possible?

I'm on 10Mbps but only syncing at 4Mbps, according to my modem the line is capable of 8Mbps..

It will depend on the quality of your copper connection and the distance between your modem and the DSLAM.

I pay for 4MB can't get 10MB. I sync at 4096 and 512K upload, best on speedtest on this site is local 2.9 - 3.4MB but my overseas is 1.2 - 2mb don't understand why?
