I'm not a tech bof, so please excuse my ignorance :) Right, I live just outside Pilanesberg, at Mogwase near Manyane.
We've had the area cables stolen now for the 6th time in the last 13 months. Jan,Feb, March '11 it was down for 51 days and currently it's 27 days again, so no adsl. Telkom is apparently not replacing the lines this time. I use a Cell C stick as backup, but from 7h00 - 23h00 ish the speed drops to 20kb/minute....yes per minute. Most people in the area use Vodacom 3G that is faster, but not by much.
I can live with no landlines, but do need decent connectivity - wifi would be great. Any suggestions/solutions? Tx!

You could try an aerial on a high mast, that's about all I can suggest. If its really bad then you'll have to mount the aerial on top of a hill and relay the signal to where you live. You can ring up a solar-powered system to do this. However, might this not get stolen too?

Do you have any WIFI phone or computer to see if you get any wifi service providers where you stay .

Check if you dont have any Wi-Fi internet Providers in your area.

You could get the MTN Uncapped Internet packages, but dont get them now, after January 2011, theyre heavy shaping policy (speeds of 128kbps) will apply, although MTN said this might be unlikely. In the Meantime, I think you should move from Cell C and get a Vodacom or MTN cap (2gb p.m maybe). Or, if you want something permanent, the 8ta 10GB thing for R199 is very popular and affordable.

I also heard Telkom is planning to have Satellite internet for +-R500, they havnt launched it yet, its expected middle 2012.

I think for now, get an MTN or Vodacom Cap, if not then query Cell C why their network is hanging on you.

tx guys, I will try the wifi - I'm sure there will be providers in Rustenburg - it's 60 k's away
