Anyways here's an alternative:

R2700

Radeon R9 280

Use that R1300 you safe towards the SSD (If current MOBO supports it)

Then start saving up for new Motherboard and CPU, if the performance is not to your liking.

You'll have like a R700 headstart. R1300 if you go for the 120GB SSD

It has been getting worse over the last 4 months. Right now it is at the point where my pc takes 2 minutes to "alt tab" out of Diablo 3 and another 2 minutes to get back in. If I teleport through a rift my screen is frozen for about 30 secs to a minute. Can't tell you how many times I have entered a rift just to see my body doing cart wheels once the PC has loaded lol.

I should probably also mention that my hdd (actual size 1.81TB) has about 150 gigs free. I also have a 2TB external connected with 180GB free out of 1.81TB. My PC takes about 7 minutes to fully start up atm!

I'd check both the RAM (using Memtest86+) and the hard drive (using CrystalDiskInfo). If it was the drive failing, you'd be having booting issues and a couple of errors about corrupted data from the OS or the system log. Memory errors are a lot more acute and would create similar problems to the one you describe.

Btw anyone know if they gonna bring in more budget orientated GTX9xx cards?

January 2015 is more than likely the shipping date for the GTX960. Nvidia is currently testing them with partners now.

Wait a second. Does his motherboard even have SATA3?

Its LGA1156, so it has SATA3. Only two SATA3 ports, mind you, that's all the chipset had to offer back then.

Sounds like a clean install would sort out your issues.

This will help to a certain degree but wont sort out the hardware side of things such as bottle necking and lack of RAM.
