Advice for an upgrade

Btw if you go the GTX 970 you can just crank it all up way high. Your fps will still be limited by your CPU, but you will have a true cinematic experience.

You could then upgrade your motherboard and CPU at a later date, and just re-use the RAM. Get an SSD.

I find it funny that people automatically suggest hardware upgrades to solve a problem that has only recently begun to affect gameplay. Perhaps everyone should just not recommend hardware upgrades until OP can return and answer some questions.

There's never been a card to saturate a PCI -E 2.0 16x slot and now you want to say he needs a PCI-E 3.0 mobo?

You really know nothing.

PC upgrading is all about future proofing, why not get a new CPU, Mobo and RAM now then he can just upgrade the GPU at a later stage.

And saying I know nothing is such a low blow, because this is exactly what i did. I had a Q9400 Core2Quad with 4GB of DDR2 800 Ram with a GTX460. Then I upgraded to my current specs. Boy did it help.

Sorry to say this, but just because it worked for you doesn't, mean it would work for him.First read up on his hardware and then comment.

i7 860 is still a good CPU by today's standards.
Radeon HD5750 was a mid range card in 2009 already so that will possibly be slow by today's standards.

Also like Wesley said: can Breadbox tell us if he has been having these issues while playing these games for a while now or if its the first time he is trying to run the games and having issues.

Except he doesn't have a Q9400. He has an i7. His CPU is about 3 generations newer and has hyper threading.

It's one year newer, and only slightly better.

I would personally sell that 1156 stuff ASAP because it would be difficult to sell that in a few years time.

PC upgrading is all about future proofing

Its not, it's a total sham. I've personally moved away from concentrating on future-proofing because very few people actually get to the stage where it becomes a concern. I've only ever thought about it in cases where there'll be a tangible benefit to planning for future component upgrades, like Z97 and future Broadwell compatibility.

Sorry for the delayed response guys. Just came off of work, 12 hour shift and all .

His kit is fine for those games I think it's your Internet. Upgrade the interwebz.

I have a 4mb line with Telkom as my ISP. I also have axxess as an ISP and my pings are really great. I play Diablo 3 with a ping of 190 - 210 and my local ping is around 50 - 70.

Your ram is your problem. It's not enough. If you can't add more, optimise your pc with an app like tuneup utilities in turbo mode.

Your gpu, cpu, psu is still good enough.

I also think so. The motherboard has 4 x ram slots. I don't know if I can add the 2 x 4gb to that or if I will need to take the current 4gb out though. Will have to look this up.

He has 4Gig, I'm running those games with 3 gig...
Just gonna need more information:

What graphics settings you running DOTA2 at currently, if possible post screenshot.

Check your core usage, if only 2 cores are utilized with your i7 and they at 90% plus that might be part of the problem.

I set all my settings to the lowest but kept the textures to high. Shadows are also on but on lowest settings. The rest is all off. How can I check my core usage btw? I know a bit about PC's but never looked at a CPU's individual cores :p.

How recent is "recent" in your case? A few weeks? Days? Months?

It has been getting worse over the last 4 months. Right now it is at the point where my pc takes 2 minutes to "alt tab" out of Diablo 3 and another 2 minutes to get back in. If I teleport through a rift my screen is frozen for about 30 secs to a minute. Can't tell you how many times I have entered a rift just to see my body doing cart wheels once the PC has loaded lol.

I should probably also mention that my hdd (actual size 1.81TB) has about 150 gigs free. I also have a 2TB external connected with 180GB free out of 1.81TB. My PC takes about 7 minutes to fully start up atm!

Think it's time to start anew.

Ctrl + Alt + Delete

Click on Performance Tab, do it when windows started up to see if something isn't using it up.

Also "Windows button + R"

Click on startup, and start removing the stuff you don't need.

Also run everything in borderless Window mode.

Ah. Now it makes sense.

Your hard drive is dying.

Great excuse to get an SSD :D

But get a 240GB at least. They really not expensive now.

Unrelatedly, What brand is your power supply and how old is it?

Btw anyone know if they gonna bring in more budget orientated GTX9xx cards?

You have to decide if it's a nas or a gaming pc. Sounds like a clean install would sort out your issues.

Wait a second. Does his motherboard even have SATA3?

OP:
ctrl + R for run window

type in:
msinfo32

Check for system model, just want to make sure.
