advice from buddy on WotLK beta

ok so for those of you hardcores who raid like crazy and are dripping in purples, the word is that the tier 5-6 stuff will likely last you quite a while as the quest rewards from northrend arent that ridiculous to start off in. If you remember the first few quests in TBC you were dumping all your stuff for outland greens. Apparently this is not the case with northrend. However, this is only first impressions from the first few quests. I also read another post where a dude got his first blue reward from a questline, and the dps and stats on the weapons were comparable to my craftedLionheart blade, which pisses me off tbh cuz i spent alot of effort on that thing. Anyways, if you are more of a casual player like me then dont worry about your gear cuz once you get off the boat in northrend you will be gettin new stuff anyways.
 
Lionheart like all craftables sub t5 is to be expected to be replaced...
As for level 71 loot replacing t5-6 gear, there will be a few pieces that can be replaced. Thinking of trinkets, rings, and necklaces...
From some other beta testers I have learned that t6 gear is still better than blue rewards up to lvl 75, but item stats are not yet finalized.
Having your purples now though will improve your chances to survive and level faster for that first 3 levels in northrend, remember going to level 71 is ~20% longer than 69-70 ;)

Yeah, Blizzard have stated wotlk jump will not be as steep as tbc was in terms of gear stats. Although, I was still using a couple 60 epics when i ding'd 70. Kara was done in full t3. It will be interesting to see how long tbc gear lasts
 
No one is going to raid -before- lvl 80. So it's somewhat irrelevant "how long" your items will last from lvl 71 - 79 ...i'm certain 99% of all people will be -power leveling- straight to 80. So all that matters is the itemization at lvl 80.

It's like going on how cool lvl 66 items are in Nagrand....no one actually KEEP their lvl 66 items do they?
 
Word is you'll start replacing T5/T6 at level 77-78.
Killing yourself for gear now is pointless. Take some time out to simply enjoy the simpler, funner things about WoW, like rolling an alt or ganking fewls in STV or owning up the BG's. Imo.
The only gear that may still be relevant at 80 might be Sunwell stuff/the BC legendaries.
 
I got a Beta invite last night. Once i finish downloading the 2gb client I'll let you know :P

Today, yes. For months after BC's launch though, they were hawt. People were walking into Karazahn and heroics with them. Nothing lasts forever, though, even raid gear gets replaced by other raid gear, and just when you think you have it all, the next expansion arrives and devalues it all.

I don't mind, upgrades make me happy. I like having something better to look forward to, even if it invalidates all the slog and toil I've gone through before.

You get a nasty surprise after the initial 2gb:

22mb, 240mb, 26mb & 511mb (this is what I'm currently downloading) I know they also released another.

It seriously depends why you play the game. I play to defeat new content, because that is the fun part for me. I see loot as tools I need to ease my chances to defeat new raid content. And hence farming older content to get loot so that a whole raid group improve, is not a waste of my time.
So I will keep on wiping on illidian and his council till we have beaten them, then go wipe in Sunwell till wotlk is released. It is what makes the game fun to me. I pay to have fun...

I have run one of the guilds that continued to clear AQ40 and then Nax during the first months after TBC were released. It was seriously fun! And subsequintly all 4 of my level 70 chars have at level 70 completed MC and BWL.
 
When did they release the beta invites?
How were the invitees contacted?

Started a week ago, you would have had to register for the BETA and they would invite you via the e-mail address on your account. You also had to select one of your chars for the BETA.

Actualy it started about 4 weeks already, atleast that were the end of the alpha testing and first round of beta tester invites. Second round were last week. The raid group I am in now have a guild beta invite, to bad I am in a different guild :(

I know of someone who got an invite last week.

Problem he says he has. He can play till lvl 80 and all that. But once the Beta is over and WoTLK launches he has to re do it again on his druid :D

I think I'd rather wait for the release than have to do lvl 70 - 80 twice on one char :o

Well, I actualy agree with you here :p why should I take my time to test something for blizard and not getting payed for it :p just to do it all over again in a few months.
