Advice on a 65 Inch TV

Hi All,

We are replacing our 55" TV with a 65" or 75" TV. I'm leaning towards a 65" so that we could get more bang for our bucks in terms of image quality.

There are a boatload of options and from what I can find online it looks like Hisense, Samsung and TCL lead the pack in that area of 65" QLED screens in the R12K - R18K price range, we have an Apple TV and decent soundbar so the most important features are the screen and image quality for sports, movies etc. Gaming isn't a priority on this screen.

If anyone could provide some solid advice based on their experience or if any TV Guru's out there could point me in the right direction, that would be great!

Really? You're basing that on what? My 65" Hisense is still going fine for 5 years now, the old 58" it replaced is also going strong and the 50" that it replaced was also going strong, plus they have a 5 year warranty so if the backlights are weak and fail, the replacement fee isn't 30% of a new TV it's Hisense repairs it over the 5 years.
I mean according to this place don't get Samsung

They are a real place, though I only ordered a set of wardrobes from them, but that is a decent TV, better than the replacement 670RP, though sadly not as good as the 770mn it replaced.
At the price range you're going to need to look at Toshiba, TCL and Hisense for decent TVs, the Samsungs and LGs at that price range would be lower to mid range which means they won't have the same features nor overall experience as the higher end models.

The higher end TCLs even start hitting the 20 to 24k mark nowadays. If you could find a QM6K in SA that would be the best low to mid end TV.

The backlight on my Hisense has never failed in the 9 years I have had the TV.. the only thing that failed was a R2 capacitor on the power supply that I had to replace earlier this year..

Plus if the backlights did start failing it would be within the first 5 years, where it is still under warranty and will be fixed. Can't really say the same for his recommendations of LG and Samsung.

My experience between home and work:

HiSense - Great value for money, but reliability 50/50. Some working fine 3 years later, the other half lost their backlights and they wanted R8000 to replace it on a 55" TV lol...

Sinotech - Same experience as the Hisense.

Sony - These just carry on and on and on and on and never break. Expensive...

LG/Samsung - I put them in the same boat, both have been very reliable. Expensive tho.

TCL - I only have one 65" 120Hz I'm using for Gaming only. which means it doesnt see a lot of usage like a normal TV but so far it works fine, and the Google OS is awesome.

Thanks, so far that TCL does look like a good option, good value for money, was looking at a higher end model but this one seems to tick all the boxes, 144Mhz, Amd FreeSync etc

Yup and if you stretch to the 75" it's also good value. Though Fairprice is the only place to still have them, technically Toshiba would be under warranty through Hisense.

Actually thats the one i have, i dont think they do a 120hz, its 144. But yeah, its a good TV.

True, when you check the specs there are some variables regarding the hz and refresh rates but I'm sure its more than enough, especially when we're moving from an insurance replaced JVC which started losing the plot

It'll be a massive step up from that.

IF you can, wait until the QM8K or QM9K reach ZA, they are miles ahead of that one.

If you want the best picture quality, nothing beats an LG Oled. Well, the Sony does, but you can't get them here.

yeah, sorry, I couldn't remember the EU model designations.

Look, IMHO 25k for a picture quality that rivals a 36k LG OLED is a bargain

Sure, but if your budget is 18k tops, that doesn't really extend to the C9K
