Hi all

I have at present a Telkom 5102G ADSL router and was thinking of upgrading for the following reasons. Firstly, my son got an Apple iPad which doesn't seem to want to connect with this particular router. Secondly, the signal strength is pretty low from my kids pc's scattered around the house and then also my son just upgraded his PC to latest specs and battling to connect to this seemingly old router. Is it time for an upgrade?

I've also been told to rather get one of the newer N1 type routers for signal strength ... any recommendations here in SA?

Thanks & regards

You cannot connect unlimited clients wirelessly. There will be all sorts of diconnects and confusion if you do. I would suggest a relatively cheap Billion ADSL2+ router, and a couple of Homeplugs ( EoP - Ethernet over powerlines ). Pop the old router at the other end of the homeplug network, and you have wireless and wired ethernet to your main router, thus covering two areas of your house. Your son with his upgraded PC sounds like he needs (as in lag junkie) to be connected with an ethernet cable to main router, so either get another homeplug for him or setup the old router in his room. (this will shave 1ms or two from his ping times) The magic of EoP is the main circuit breaker protects your gear from surges, etc. (Just makes sure its in good working order - or pop in a new one just to be sure)

Thus the idea is to only use wireless connections for things like iPads and Cellphones...

Thanks ... what's the deal on the older G type routers compared to the newer N Type?
