Greetings,

I am looking to buy an usb OTG cable (USB on the go), any good advice, experiences the other members can share?

I want to use my 3g dongle to connect to the internet on a tablet via the OTG cable.

Well, you have to make sure your tab is compatible with the modem you have.

what Slab just said above

this is a big issue that many modems are not Android compatible

we do have the Geeko USB modem that is 100% compatible with Android O/S and also have the Geeko OTG cables in stock

The only thing I would watch out for is, even if they are OTG cables, one of the wires in the cable needs to be shorted correctly otherwise it won't work.

First cable I got from a PC shop wasn't shorted didn't work, cable I got off ebay with my PU leather case for my tablet works 100% plus it picked a modem not on the list so bonus.

If you have the tablet to USB2 cable you can also consider using USB reverse tethering, also some where on play store, also works pretty darn well, no root needed for that ;)

I bought an OTG cable on eBay for R8 (incl. shipping) about 2 years back. Works perfectly on Nexus 7.

They still sell on eBay for like $1-$2. You essentially just search for the android device name + OTG on eBay and you'll almost certainly find something that'll work for you.

Sort by Lowest Price + Shipping and bam. Bob's your uncle. The chinese guys send it VIA post so no taxes.

If you can afford a tablet, you can afford a decent phone. So just use your phone to tether, less hassle.

Yes I have a decent phone and it can tether (S4 wifi hotspot) was just looking at alternatives.

+1 to YingYang I am not rooted yet... Its the lenovo A1000 its a basic tablet. I did see some rooting guides on xda forums
Just to let you know, I used my N7 with an antique k3565z modem (not the best in the world) this afternoon and it only used 15% of the battery after 1.5 hrs of medium internet usage. I really can recommend the PPPwidget if you're willing to root.
