Advice required: PS3 or XBox

I must say after doing more reading, I am more inclined to get the PS3 Slim.

This article - PS3 Slim vs Xbox 360 Elite: David vs Goliath has me convinced about the PS3 Slim. It's an excellent article, providing an unbiased comparison.

I don't really care for exclusive titles, as I am led to believe that most of the great games will be released on both platforms.

If you are not a Hardcore gamer then the Media capabilities of the PS3 will make it so much more useful, better value for money :D

There are some great titles that will never be released on the Xbox IMHO. :D

I wont comment on your list. Flame-war fodder for some. I remember a time when posters was crucified, named, shamed and blamed for just posting that exact same facts.

Good choice, good luck and enjoy.

[*]XBox Live ain't supported in RSA (no local servers) but one can game on international servers, for a fee (how much exactly??), but there are issues about paying or RSA credit cards being blocked or RSA accounts being locked or shut down.
I think the fee is around $50 which may sound a lot but per month equals about R30-40. It seems your account can be suspended if you use a SA credit card or any credit card not from a live supported country. but there are a few excellent online shops that will email you the codes for points or gold membership within half an hour of payment so its not much of an issue

I don't know much about consoles. I have never owned one other than a 8bit gaming station, But you did mention you used to the PC. you might to consider using Keyboard and mouse on the console. I think the PS3 can do that.

Thanks Rosaudio & SuperAntMD for your responses.

According to the article, it seems the only thing that the XBox has a bit of an advantage with, is XBox Live.

I don't really care for exclusive titles, as I am led to believe that most of the great games will be released on both platforms. Both platforms will have some exclusives, so if you are going to choose only one platform, you're going to lose out either way. Since I'm not a hardcore gamer, I don't care about this.

What I like about the PS3 Slim
  1. you can upgrade the HD with no fuss
  2. wireless controllers are rechargeable through USB. No need to deal with batteries. I think it is also possible to charge the controllers using your computer's USB port, if both USB ports on the console are already in use. Nice if you have an external HD, or other devices attached.
  3. blu-ray - I am not a hard-core gamer, so blu-ray IS a plus, as I am interested in Blu-Ray movie releases, and other home entertainment options. Also, multi-disc games sound like a pain. With Blu-Ray, everything should fit on one disc.
  4. built-in WiFi, and gigabit ethernet
  5. PSN is free
Seems you made your mind, Go for it. It is a great console. A Versatile all round machine.
If you are looking for used games, go check out www.ps3za.co.za
I usually look around for used games there and the community is great. The owners take great care in their games so you are pretty much guarenteed games in great condition.
